Keke Palmer said she didn't feel adequately paid in Hollywood until Jordan Peele's 'Nope' — two decades into her career
Keke Palmer has worked in Hollywood since she was 10 — but when asked by Business Insider when she felt adequately paid, the 31-year-old said: "' Nope,' that was probably the first time." Palmer played Emerald Haywood in Jordan Peele's 2022 horror movie, in which she and Daniel Kaluuya play siblings who try to get a photo of a murderous UFO to sell the image for money. Before "Nope," Palmer led the Nickelodeon series "True Jackson, VP," which ran from 2008 until 2011, starred in the 2015 slasher comedy " Scream Queens" created by Ryan Murphy, and voiced the mammoth Peaches in multiple " Ice Age" movies. Palmer's first prominent movie role was at the age of 12 in 2006's " Akeelah and the Bee," in which she starred opposite Queen Latifah. Palmer, who is also a singer, TV host, author, and podcaster, said that gender and racial inequalities are very real in Hollywood, but she doesn't dwell on them. "I don't compare — especially as a Black person, a Black woman — because it's not a fair thing to do to myself," Palmer continued. "I don't think that comparing oneself makes sense in any regard, because you're not at the same vantage point, beginning or otherwise, as someone else." She added that "if you are getting your needs met, that has to be at the forefront of your mind. That doesn't mean that everything is fair, but it's an important thing to think about and have a particular perspective about." Palmer encourages other actors in Hollywood to diversy their income streams Palmer said it's one of the reasons she's diversified her income streams, including owning multiple production companies, and has encouraged others to do the same. "It's essentially why I turned my brand into a holdings company with subsidiaries. You have to diversify," Palmer said. It's increasingly common for A-listers to launch multiple businesses to increase career longevity. Rihanna has Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty. Kim Kardashian launched Skims, and Reese Witherspoon's media company, Hello Sunshine, is among the most successful in Hollywood. In recent years, Black actors, including Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis, Mo'Nique, and Taraji P. Henson, have spoken out about not being paid fairly on account of their race and gender. In a 2023 SiriusXM interview, Henson confirmed rumors that she considered quitting Hollywood over pay inequality. "I'm just tired of working so hard, being gracious at what I do [and] getting paid a fraction of the cost," she said tearfully. "I'm tired of hearing my sisters say the same thing over and over. You get tired. I hear people go, 'You work a lot.' Well, I have to."

2024 Exploration Update for Strategic Minerals JV
Reykjavík, May 13, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ('Amaroq' or the 'Company' or the 'Corporation') 2024 Exploration Update for Strategic Minerals JV Amaroq Advances its Strategic Minerals Vision — Welcoming Dr. Steve Garwin TORONTO, ONTARIO – May 13, 2025 – Amaroq Minerals Ltd. (AIM, TSXV, NASDAQ Iceland: AMRQ), an independent mining company with a substantial land package of gold and strategic mineral assets in Southern Greenland, is pleased to provide an update on the 2024 exploration results across the Company's strategic minerals portfolio JV, Gardaq AS. Highlights General Stendalen South Greenland Copper Belt Target North Johan Dahl Land Josva 1 Amaroq Awarded Johan Dahl Land Licence and Positive Initial Exploration Results, 22 January 2025 . References to the accompanying presentation can be accessed on the website by clicking the link below: . James Gilbertson, VP Exploration for Amaroq, commented: '2024 was a defining year for Amaroq's strategic minerals exploration. While not every drill target yielded economic results, each programme delivered valuable geological insights that are sharpening our focus on the most promising opportunities. Key highlights include the discovery of new porphyry and epithermal systems, confirmation of a cobalt-rich nickel-copper target at Stendalen, and strong early results at Ukaleq — all reinforcing South Greenland's untapped potential. 'We're also pleased to welcome Dr. Steve Garwin as Technical Advisor. His global expertise in porphyry and epithermal systems is already influencing our exploration strategy. 'With new drill data, geophysics, and assay results in hand, Amaroq is well positioned to prioritise 2025 follow-up programmes — including potential further drilling at Stendalen and Ukaleq. These next steps will be key in demonstrating the value of the Gardaq JV and its contribution to Amaroq's strategic growth.' Overview of 2024 Exploration Programme 2024 Drill Locations Stendalen * Logged, sampled and detectORE assays received Projection WGS 84 UTM zone 23N All Core drilled at NQ diameter Target North Projection WGS 84 UTM zone 23N All Core drilled at NQ diameter Josva Projection WGS 84 UTM zone 23N All Core drilled at NQ diameter Initial Review of Exploration Results Stendalen In 2024, while assays are still largely pending and expected later this quarter, drilling did confirm extensive Cu/Ni/Co sulphides concentrated throughout the system as well as along the basal contact of the gabbroic intrusion, supported by strong conductive signals identified through downhole electromagnetic surveys (DHEM). Updated geological models from these drilling results incorporate fold structures (anticlines, synclines, and sheathing) that could act as key controls on mineralisation, particularly near the hypothesised feeder zone to the northwest. U-Pb zircon dating yielded an age of ~1804 Ma, predating the Ketilidian orogeny and aligning well with these observed structural features and deformation phases. These results provide a number of promising drill targets and represent a significant step toward advancing Stendalen. Further afield from Stendalen, Amaroq is looking to leverage off the geological and sulphide hosting experienced gained in the assessment for further identify potential ultramafic and volcanic-hosted mineralisation. Copper Belt In 2024, drilling at Josva tested the depth and strike extensions of the historic copper-bearing Josva Shear Zone. While low-grade copper mineralisation (primarily bornite and chalcopyrite) was intercepted, results were below economic thresholds, though they expanded understanding of the mineralised system and its structural controls. Work will now more towards an assessment of the strike and depth potential away from Josva. *True lengths have not been determined but are estimated to be 70-100% of interval length At Target North, scout drilling intersected low- to intermediate-sulphidation epithermal veins, with evidence of hydrothermal boiling textures. Although no economic mineralisation was encountered, the confirmation of a well-developed epithermal system provides compelling evidence of the region's broader potential to host Cu-Au epithermal targets. As such, exploration focus is now shifting to other regional targets along the belt where similar geological signatures may be present. Further exploration across the Copper Belt identified the Ukaleq target that included gold grades up to 12.3 g/t Au and copper grades reaching 5.1%, indicative of a robust mineralizing system; as previously reported. On top of this exploration efforts have identified at least a further four prospective porphyry/epithermal targets to be followed up during 2025. New Licences The Company has drawn on its geological expertise to apply for three additional mineral licences, targeting highly prospective opportunities across Greenland. These include the tier-one phosphate and critical minerals potential at Gardiner (East Greenland), the emerging REE and Nb-Ta target at Illerfissalik, and a potential Kiruna-style IOCG system at Minturn in northern Greenland. Sampling and QAQC Disclosure Surface Drilling Drill core was cut in half using a diamond blade core saw. Cut lines were consistently drawn along the core foliation axis and the right-hand side of the core was sampled. All drill core samples were placed into thick polymer bags with a sample ticket. All samples were prepared at ALS Geochemistry's containerised preparation laboratory on-site at Nalunaq, before being packaged and sent to an accredited laboratory, ALS Geochemistry, Loughrea, Ireland, for analysis. At Stendalen - Sample preparation scheme PREP-31BY was used on all samples. This involves crushing to 70% under 2 mm, rotary split off 1 kg, and pulverizing the split to better than 85% passing 75 microns. Samples were then analysed by 50 g fire assay and ICP-MS finish using method PGM-MS24 which has a low detection limit for Pt, Pd and Au. A second multielement assay analysis is run for 50 g using method ME-MS61r, where the sample is digested in 4-acid (perchloric, nitric, hydrofluoric and hydrochloric acids) and analysed by ICP-AES for all elements and ICP-MS for high concentration elements. At Target North and Josva - Sample preparation scheme PREP-31BY was used on all samples. This involves crushing to 70% under 2 mm, rotary split off 1 kg, and pulverizing the split to better than 85% passing 75 microns. Samples were then analysed by 50 g fire assay and ICP-AES finish using method Au-ICP2, with overlimit method Au-GRA22 which has a gravimetric finish. A second multielement assay analysis is run for 50 g using method ME-MS61r, where the sample is digested in 4-acid (perchloric, nitric, hydrofluoric and hydrochloric acids) and analysed by ICP-MS for all elements. Samples were analysed for Si, Ti and Zr using pXRF method pXRF-34. Amaroq's QA/QC program consists of the systematic insertion of certified reference materials of known base metal contents, blanks, and quarter core field duplicates at a rate of 1 in 20 (5%) per QA/QC type. In addition, ALS insert blanks and standards into the analytical process. Grab Sampling Grab samples were collected from outcrops through the use of geological picks and hammers. Where possible chip channel samples were collected across the width of the visible vein. Grab samples were packaged into thick polymer bags with a sample ticket and reviewed by the Company geological staff prior to submission. All grab samples were prepared at ALS Geochemistry's containerised preparation laboratory on-site at Nalunaq, before being packaged and sent to an accredited laboratory, ALS Geochemistry, Loughrea, Ireland, for analysis. As with drill the surface drill core, samples underwent preparation scheme PREP-31BY. This involves crushing to 70% under 2 mm, rotary split off 1 kg, and pulverizing the split to better than 85% passing 75 microns. Samples were then analysed by 50 g fire assay with method Au-AA26 which has a detection limit of 0.01 ppm Au. Samples containing visible gold and samples considered to be the Main Vein were assayed with screen-metallics fire assay technique Au-SCR24 which has a detection limit of 0.05 ppm Au. This involves screening 1 kg of pulverised sample to 106 microns followed by a gravimetric assay of the entire plus fraction and a duplicate 50 g AAS assay of the minus fraction. Grab sample QAQC procedures consisted of the systematic insertion of certified reference materials of known gold content, blanks, and field duplicates at a rate of 1 in 20 or 5% per QA/QC type. In addition, ALS insert blanks and standards into the analytical process. Enquiries: Amaroq Minerals Ltd. Gold Prices Fall Rs 3,400 To Rs 96,550 As US-China Trade Deal Curbs Demand
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Gold prices fell sharply amid signs of progress in trade talks between the US and China, along with some relief in geopolitical tensions, including India-Pakistan, says an expert. Gold prices tanked sharply by Rs 3,400 to Rs 96,550 per 10 grams in the national capital on Monday as traders shifted from safe-haven buying after the US declared a 90-day pause on tariff against Chinese imports. According to the All India Sarafa Association, the precious metal of 99.5 per cent purity plunged Rs 3,400 to Rs 96,100 per 10 grams on Monday. This marks the steepest fall in 10 months since gold prices plunged Rs 3,350 on July 23, 2024. Gold of 99.9 and 99.5 per cent purity had settled at Rs 99,950 and Rs 99,500 per 10 grams on Saturday. 'Gold prices fell sharply amid signs of progress in trade talks between the US and China, along with some relief in geopolitical tensions, including India-Pakistan," Rahul Kalantri, VP Commodities at Mehta Equities Ltd, said. Also, silver prices fell Rs 200 to Rs 99,700 per kg from Saturday's close of Rs 99,900 per kg. Following the trade talks in Geneva over the weekend, the US agreed to drop its 145 per cent tariff rate on Chinese goods to 30 per cent, while China agreed to lower its rate on US goods to 10 per cent for a 90-day period. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, is trading higher by 1.42 per cent at 101.76. In futures trades, the most traded contract for gold plummeted Rs 3,932 or 4.07 per cent to trade at Rs 92,586 per 10 grams on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX). According to Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst – Commodity and Currency, LKP Securities, geopolitical tensions cooled with signs of a potential truce between Russia and Ukraine, and an understanding between India and Pakistan on military actions. These developments led to heavy profit booking in gold, which had previously rallied on global uncertainty, Trivedi said. A strong rally in stock markets also hit the gold's appeal as a safe-haven bet. Silver contracts for July delivery slumped Rs 2,295 or 2.37 per cent to Rs 94,434 per kg on the MCX. Spot gold tanked over 3 per cent to trade at USD 3,218.70 per ounce in the global markets. Spot silver in the international markets fell 1.19 per cent to trade at USD 32.33 per ounce. 'Gold dips more than 2 per cent on long-liquidation/ profit-booking amid easing geo-political tensions and recovery in the greenback against major currencies," Pranav Mer, Vice President, EBG – Commodity & Currency Research at JM Financial Services Ltd, said. Later in the week, investors will focus on the US macroeconomic data, including inflation/ retail sales and consumer sentiments. They will also await US Fed Chair Jerome Powell's speech – for more clues on the central bank interest rate path, Mer added. Karnataka launches special campaign to boost govt school attendance
Bengaluru: The department of school education and literacy has initiated a new campaign to increase admissions to govt schools this many as 408 schools have been identified where the campaign will be held. "The schools will invite community leaders and parents to these schools, offering them guided tours and briefings on available facilities. This will create awareness of the benefits of enrolling in a govt school," said K V Trilok Chandra, commissioner, department of school there will be community outreach programmes where teachers will identify potential parents in the neighbourhood and encourage them to enrol their children in the govt schools. While a similar outreach programme is already in place, this year, it will be held on a larger campaign already began with state-level training for deputy directors of public instruction and block education officers last week. "With significant investments being made in govt schools, it is important to create awareness and get eligible students to enrol," he in Karnataka, even though the number of private schools is less than half of govt schools, the enrolment is more in them. As per the unified district information system for education (UDISE) 2023-24, there are 75,869 schools in the state. Of these, 49,306 are govt schools, 7,063 are aided, and 19,542 unaided 1,19,26,303 students are enrolled in classes LKG to class 12 in these schools. About 49.9 lakh children are in govt school system, 14.6 lakh in aided schools, and 54.8 lakh in private schools. As per UDISE data of 2022-23, approximately 53.3 lakh were in govt schools, 15.1 lakh in aided schools, and 55.6 lakh were in private enrolment in some govt schools has been increasing, owing to introduction of kindergarten, English medium; and Karnataka Public Schools, the class 1-12 schools, that boast good infrastructure and better student-faculty V P, educationist, said: "The idea is excellent, but in my opinion, it is too late. Many private schools start admissions by Oct/Nov itself. The department should announce the calendar of events much ahead and needs to be strict about it. By the time govt schools start admissions from April 10, it is way too late. Also, since there are holidays from April 10-May 29, the govt schools are hardly functional."He added: "We had a success story when all our school development monitoring committee members went to a village in Bannikuppe in Bidadi and handed over handbills with list of facilities in govt schools, and ended up with 2,600 students. The teachers should be committed when they roll out this programme."
