Crime rate drops by 27% in Sri Sathya Sai district

Puttaparthi: Sri Sathya Sai District has seen a 27 per cent decline in crime compared to last year, said district superintendent of police V Ratna during the half-yearly crime review meeting at Sai Aram, Puttaparthi. The meeting, held under the directives of state DGP Harish Gupta, highlighted significant improvements in public safety. The SP reported a 36 per cent drop in murders and attempted murders, with the district ranking among seven in Andhra Pradesh recording a 41 per cent reduction in crime. She credited this success to a year-long special action plan and coordinated police efforts. Key discussions included progress on grave and non-grave cases, murder, POCSO, rape, dacoity, robbery, property crimes, vehicle thefts, missing persons, cheating cases, and road accidents . Updates on pending files, NBWs, and NDPS cases were also presented. Enhanced surveillance through CCTVs and drones, along with a planned Command Control system in Kadiri, aims to curb crimes against women and children. Initiatives like rowdy-sheeter counseling, Shakti app awareness campaigns, and community policing have further strengthened law enforcement. Preparations are underway for the Ganesh festival and Sri Sathya Sai Baba's centenary celebrations , expected to attract VIPs and devotees nationwide. SP Ratna thanked the District Collector for support, ensuring inter-departmental coordination for public safety. Additional public prosecutor Srujana stressed focusing on missing minor girls in POCSO cases, while transport officer Karunasagar Reddy discussed road safety measures . In recognition of outstanding service, 57 police personnel received appreciation certificates for speedy investigations, swift arrests, and reducing pending cases. DCO Ram Naik, ICDS PD Sridevi, fire officer Madhava Naidu, APPs, DSPs, and police inspectors from across the district were present.

Puttaparthi (Sri Sathya Sai district): DistrictSP V Ratna, emphasised the critical role of auto-drivers in ensuring public safety during the 'Safety and Responsibility' awareness meet held at Sai Ashram, Puttaparthi. The session was conducted under the supervision of DSP Vijay Kumar and included a free medical camp for drivers. Addressing over 800 auto drivers, SP Ratna described driving as not just a job but a social responsibility. She urged them to be alert to suspicious activities, behave respectfully with passengers especially women, students, and children and stay away from alcohol and drugs. She highlighted the need to install Vehicle Tracking Systems (VTS) for improved passenger safety. With increased foreign tourist visits expected during Sri Sathya Sai Baba's centenary, she advised drivers to learn basic English and Hindi to better assist visitors. District Medical Officer Dr Firoz Begum cautioned drivers about health risks from consuming pan masala and alcohol and encouraged regular health checkups. Motor Vehicle Inspector Varaprasad explained that helping accident victims could earn government rewards and urged drivers to keep first aid kits in their vehicles. The event included eye, dental, and general health checkups, distribution of medicines, and hygiene kits. Auto-rickshaw drivers appreciated the initiative, calling it a 'mental boost' and thanking the SP for her inspirational guidance.

Puttaparthi: Sri Sathya Sai District Collector TS Chetan has called for collective efforts to enroll all school-age children and transform the district into a dropout-free zone. Addressing the media on Saturday at the Mini Conference Hall in the District Collectorate joined by District SP V Ratna, IPS, to outline the district's strategy for the upcoming Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) and related programmes including P4 and Talli Ki Vandanam. He explained that the Mega PTM an initiative of the State Education Department—will be held across Andhra Pradesh on July 10. The event is aimed at strengthening the bond between students, parents, and teachers, and will be conducted in a festive atmosphere, focusing on comprehensive educational development. Mandatory participation of all students with their parents and active involvement of teachers. Detailed progress reports will be shared with parents. Rangoli competitions for mothers, tug-of-war for fathers, and other cultural activities will be organised. The theme this year highlights the central role of mothers in the education system. Alumni and donors who have supported schools will also be invited. Student-led committees such as Invitation, Parking, and Hospitality committees will be set up in each school. Participation of government officials including Tahsildars, MPDOs, and Municipal Commissioners is expected. Public representatives, including MPs and MLAs, will attend the PTM in their respective constituencies. The state-level programme will be held at Kottacheruvu in our district, under the guidance of the Chief Minister. 20,789 students enrolled in Class 1, and 24,000 in Class 6 this year. Students' Aadhaar details and photographs must be linked accurately in UDISE+. Parents, teachers, and society must jointly work to eliminate school dropouts. Citizens can register at and select families to mentor. Each mentor will have a profile on the platform. Alumni and NRIs from the district are encouraged to support families in their native villages.

She made these remarks during a training and direction session held on Saturday at the District Police Office conference hall, where she also distributed kits (leather bags) to the Special Branch staff. Addressing the gathering, she urged all officers to work towards improving their technical capabilities to effectively handle field-level responsibilities. She provided key instructions to ensure proactive intelligence gathering, especially in faction-prone villages, to prevent conflicts and maintain law and order. In view of the upcoming Muharram celebrations, the SP instructed officers to take all necessary precautionary measures to avoid any disturbances and ensure peaceful conduct of the events. She also encouraged personnel to perform their duties diligently and bring a good reputation to the district police department. As part of the event, leather kit bags were formally handed over to the Special Branch staff. The programme was attended by SB CI Balasubrahmanyam Reddy, RI Vali, Social Media SI Muni Prathap, and other Special Branch personnel.

Puttaparthi: As part of the Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS), 60 petitions were received at the District Police Office on Monday. The District Superintendent of Police (SP) V Ratna, IPS, assured that all complaints would be addressed in accordance with the law. The SP conducted the PGRS programme at the District Police Office Conference Hall, where she personally interacted with complainants from across the district. During these face-to-face discussions, the SP immediately contacted concerned police officers over the phone and issued instructions to take legal action on the spot. She emphasized that grievances should be given top priority and addressed promptly. The petitions received included family disputes, marital conflicts, land issues, and other civil matters. She instructed all officers to resolve cases strictly within the legal framework and ensure fair treatment to all complainants. She highlighted that legal justice must be accessible and transparent to the public. The programme was attended by DSP Vijay Kumar, Legal Advisor Sainath Reddy, and other police officials.
