Dalit activist targeted with casteist slurs

Rajkot: A Dalit social worker from Amreli district was allegedly subjected to casteist slurs on Instagram, after he participated in a protest against the movement of heavy vehicles for wind turbine construction on village roads in Lathi taluka. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Naresh Vala, the complainant, lodged a case at station against an Instagram user named Raol Vanrajsinh Chavda. Police booked the accused under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Information Technology Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The alleged offence can be traced back to Dec, when the sarpanch of Shekhpipariya village alerted Vala about the unlawful use of village roads by vehicles carrying wind turbine construction material. Despite requests from the panchayat for an alternative route to be used, the transporters continued to use the village roads. Vala visited the village to take up the matter with those involved in the construction. This escalated into a confrontation that required police intervention. He later spoke about the matter on a Facebook Live session. After this, Vala began receiving abusive comments on his Instagram posts from the said account. His efforts to engage with the account holder went unanswered. On April 25, Vala received a particularly offensive comment containing casteist abuse and derogatory remarks about Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and the Constitution. He alleged that these posts defamed him and incited communal disharmony.

Sales executive booked for siphoning off 19.5L

Rajkot: A complaint has been filed at Bhaktinagar police station against a sales executive for allegedly embezzling Rs 19.5 lakh from Concept Mobis , a company dealing in Hyundai car parts. The complaint, lodged by Vivek Bhandari, vice-president of the company, accuses Deepak Vala — who was employed at the company's Gondal Road branch — of diverting customer payments over a two-year period. Vala was responsible for selling parts to clients and receiving payments in cash or online, which he was expected to deposit into the company's accounts. He allegedly withheld the funds for his own use. The fraud came to light in Jan 2025 during a financial review by the company's Ahmedabad office. The audit revealed a mismatch of over Rs 11 lakh, with several transactions showing goods sold but no corresponding deposits made. Further inquiry, including direct communication with clients, revealed that some had made payments directly to Vala, while others denied making any purchases matching the company's records. A subsequent audit covering the period from 2023 to 2025 confirmed a consistent pattern of misappropriation. Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the extent of the fraud and any potential accomplices.
