VPD traffic stop leads to arrest and gun seizure
VALDOSTA, Ga. (WSAV) – A traffic stop by the Valdosta Police Department (VPD) has led to a narcotics arrest and the seizure of guns. On May 14, 2025, at approximately 2:00 p.m., members of the VPD Crime Suppression Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 500 block of East Rogers Street. While speaking with the driver, Eric Emerson Rice, 23, officers observed evidence indicative of the presence of narcotics. As Rice was exiting the vehicle, officers observed a Draco AK-47 style pistol at his feet. Officers secured Rice and the firearm. Inside the vehicle, officers located another pistol that was within Rice's reach, along with over 480 grams of marijuana. Tools and currency that are indicative of narcotics sales were also located in the vehicle. Rice was transported to the Lowndes County Jail. Illegal immigrant nabbed by Georgia police after allegedly preying on four children
An illegal immigrant in Georgia is behind bars after he allegedly molested four children who were under the age of 14. Nery Antonio Gonzalez, 36, was arrested by the Valdosta Police Department on March 14 after detectives learned that he had sexually assaulted four minors in different locations throughout the city. The Valdosta Police Department said Gonzalez is in the United States illegally, and is originally from Guatemala. Gonzalez was charged with five counts of felony child molestation, three counts of felony rape, four counts of felony aggravated sexual battery, four counts of sexual battery on a child under the age of 16, two counts of felony child molestation and three counts of felony cruelty to a child in the first degree. Valdosta Police seize drugs, firearms in Ginny Drive sweep
VALDOSTA, Ga. (WSAV) — A Thursday search warrant from the Valdosta Police Department (VPD) revealed large amounts of narcotics and firearms at a Ginny Drive residence. The department along with Narcotics Detectives searched the residence on Feb. 20. There, Jeffery Xavier Waldon, 37, was present. A sweeping search of Waldon's property uncovered two firearms, over 108 grams of cocaine, and over 35 grams of marijuana, both of which were packaged for narcotics sales. Detectives also located over 10 grams of crack cocaine, over 40 Fentanyl pills, over 60 Tramadol pills, and 10 Acetaminophen with codeine pills. Detectives found tools and currency which are also indicative of narcotics sales. Waldon was arrested on the scene without incident and taken to Lowndes County Jail. Waldon is facing multiple felony charges, including two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, Trafficking cocaine, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of Schedule II (Fentanyl) controlled substance with the intent to distribute, possession of Schedule III (Tylenol 3) controlled substance with the intent to distribute and possession of Schedule IV (Tramadol) controlled substance with the intent to distribute-felony. He also faces a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug-related items. 'This was great work by our Narcotics Detectives, who not only seized dangerous narcotics, preventing them from reaching our streets, but they also took firearms out of the hands of a convicted felon,' said Chief Leslie Manahan.
