The Central Division showdown between the Stars and Avalanche has lived up to the hype as a best-on-best matchup. And on the brink of elimination, the Avs amped up the pressure to force the best two words in sports: Game 7. Series tied 3-3 With goals from Valeri Nichushkin and Artturi Lehkonen, Colorado went up 2-0 in the first. But it didn't take long for the pace to pick up in the second. Dallas tied the game less than four minutes into the period, and 53 seconds later, Marty Necas restored the Avs' lead. The Stars responded with another two second-period goals to make it 4-3. Mikko Rantanen and Roope Hintz were the driving force behind that comeback, with points on every goal. Advertisement But in the third period, Colorado gained steam from Nichushkin to tie it, then Nathan MacKinnon to pull ahead. Two empty-netters sealed it, and set this series up for a deciding game. Nichushkin's personal life is in a 'good spot' ahead of Avalanche-Stars playoff series, coach says
DENVER — Valeri Nichushkin took strides to take his hard-checking, goal-scoring game to another level this season. Same with his life away from the rink , his Colorado Avalanche teammates, coach and GM maintain. It was nearly a year ago against the Dallas Stars when Nichushkin was suspended for six months and placed in Stage 3 of the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program. The announcement came just before Game 4 of the second-round series, marking the second straight postseason where the right winger from Russia was unavailable because of circumstances away from the ice.
