‘Egregious misuse': ‘Relatable' food delivery act that every Aussie is guilty of
An Aussie DoorDasher has gone viral after sharing a video of what might be the easiest delivery gig of his life – dropping off a McDonald's order to a house right across the road.
'Egregious misuse of the DoorDash product. I got paid $10.26 to walk 80 metres,' he captioned the video.
The clip, posted to TikTok earlier this week, shows the delivery driver in front of the customer's home holding a Mcdonald's bag, before panning across the street to the Golden Arches in question.
'Sh*t you not, dropping this off from there. Unbelievable,' he says as he films the fast food restaurant less than 100 metres away.
The order, under the name 'Valued Customer', contained three hash browns and a large hot chocolate with extra marshmallows.
The video quickly racked up hundreds of thousands of views, sparking debate in the comments about whether the customer was lazy – or just being smart.
Some were quick to defend the delivery order, pointing out that the person could have mobility issues, a newborn child or even anxiety.
'You never know what the person is going through,' one viewer wrote.
'I've done the same thing. I'm disabled. Hope this helps,' another commented.
'It could be a mum with a baby asleep, you can't just leave them alone,' a third said.
'I get deliveries from shops about the same distance away because I CAN'T walk! Try being housebound and see how you'd like this kind of judgement from people,' added a fourth.
Others admitted they had done the same thing plenty of times.
'I've gotten things delivered from less than a km away because I don't feel like interacting with people,' one said.
'Dude we have all been there,' another wrote.
'I've been there with a deathly hangover,' a third said.
But not everyone was impressed.
'Laziness is what comes to mind,' one said.
'As a DoorDash driver, I also see a lot of lazy people that couldn't be bothered walking a block,' another commented.
The delivery driver, however, didn't seem to mind.
'100 per cent easiest job of my life and I would do these all day,' he said.
DoorDash and similar platforms have become a staple of modern convenience culture over the last decade, with Aussies spending billions annually on food delivery.
In 2023, Canstar Blue found that Australians spent an average of $60 per week on restaurant meal delivery services – equating to around $240 per month or $3120 per year.
The total Australian food delivery market was valued at $20.92 billion in 2024, with expected growth at a 7.5 compound annual growth rate from 2025 to 2034.
