Vande Bharat News: In a major development, the Indian Railways has added another Vande Bharat Express that will operate in Maharashtra. This train will connect Ajni (Nagpur) and Pune. It is important to note that the new service will be the first to connect areas between Wardha and Manmad with a Vande Bharat Express train. This will be the 12th Vande Bharat Express train to operate in Maharashtra. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday described the commencement of the Vande Bharat Express between Nagpur and Pune as a 'matter of great joy' for the state. The chief minister also stated that he requested the Railway Minister for the service, and the proposal was acted upon by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking to reporters, CM Fadnavis said, 'Today is a matter of great joy for all of us that the Vande Bharat train from Nagpur to Pune has started. We had made a request to the Railway Minister, and he had spoken of taking a positive decision. That decision has been implemented today by the PM. The most important thing is that among all the Vande Bharat trains started so far, this is the longest-distance train. This train will cover a distance of 881 kilometres in 12 hours.' The Indian Railways is all set to operate the Vande Bharat train from Patliputra Junction to Gorakhpur. According to the reports, the high-speed train is expected to start running from June 20. The preparations have been completed, and a request has also been sent to the Prime Minister's Office for a suitable time. It is believed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself will flag off the Vande Bharat train on this route. Once operational, this train will play an important role for the passengers from Patna, Muzaffarpur, Narkatiaganj, and Bettiah as it will reduce travel time and enhance comfort. According to the Railways, the train will depart from Gorakhpur at 6 AM, travel via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah, and reach Patna. On the return journey, it will reach back to Gorakhpur by 9 PM. According to sources, the train is being prepared at the Gorakhpur yard, and its trial run is scheduled for this week. Earlier, this rake was brought in for the Prayagraj route, but now a decision has been made to operate it on the Patliputra-Gorakhpur route under East Central Railway. A few days ago, during his visit to Gorakhpur and Bettiah, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the operation of this train. Now, the Patna Division administration is fully prepared for the inauguration. As soon as the approval comes from the Prime Minister's Office, the train will be flagged off. This train will bring a new, modern travel experience for millions of passengers in North Bihar and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Vande Bharat ticket prices According to reports, the Railways Ministry is exploring options including subsidized tickets, and tiered pricing models, which would enable passengers pay for accommodations based on their income levels. Data reveals that there are a total of 136 Vande Bharat Express trains operating across the country, which boast an overall occupancy of over 100 percent, as of March 31, 2025. However, Vande Bharat tickets are comparatively pricier than other trains, preventing a majority of lower and middle-income passengers from opting for these semi-high speed modern trains. The government has acknowledged this widening gap, and is mulling options to make Vande Bharat services more inclusive and accessible. While no official comments or decision have been announced yet, reports suggest discussions are underway to restructure the pricing model of Vande Bharat to make it more accessible to the masses. Vande Bharat operating cost Notably, replying to a query in Parliament by Congress MP Rakibul Hussain about the affordability of Vande Bharat trains, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that government was exploring options. As per reports, Vande Bharat Express trains are costlier to operate than their conventional counterparts, with each round-trip of 1,000–1,500 kilometers costing between Rs 5-8 lakh per day. This includes Rs 2-3 lakh in energy expenses, Rs 1–1.5 lakh in maintenance, and Rs 0.5–1 lakh in crew and staff salaries. The operating cost swells up further with catering, cleaning, and miscellaneous services, making reducing fares a challenge as profitability would also be taken into consideration.
