Strict laws needed against all killings: G K Mani

Trichy: PMK honorary president G K Mani on Monday called for strict laws against all forms of massacre. He was addressing the media after a preparatory meeting for the Vanniyar Magalir Maanaadu in Mayiladuthurai. "Our party's stand is clear: there should be no killings. Just as there are laws against sexual assault on children, there must be laws against all forms of killings," Mani said. He attributed the rise in such incidents to drug abuse and alcoholism among youth. Asked about internal tensions in the party and whether PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss would attend the women's conference in Poompuhar on August 10, Mani said, "We expect him to participate." He declined to comment on party issues, saying a press meet was not the right platform for such discussions. Mani added that the Vanniyar Magalir Maanaadu would be held under the leadership of PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss and Vanniyar Sangam president P T Arulmozhi. The event would focus on women's empowerment and the rights of the Vanniyar community, he said.

‘PMK alliance' will win big: Ramadoss

Trichy: Only alliances of which PMK is a part would win big in the next assembly election, PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss said in Poompuhar in Mayiladuthurai district on Friday. He was responding to reporters' questions on whether the rift between him and his son Anbumani would affect PMK's vote bank in the upcoming election. "The alliance having PMK will achieve a huge victory. PMK will also score an unprecedented big win because the alliance would be a strong one," he said. However, Ramadoss did not clarify about the alliance he wanted to be part of. The party founder visited Poompuhar for inspecting the venue of Vanniyar Magalir Maanaadu (Vanniyar women conference) scheduled to be held on Aug 10 in Poompuhar. When reporters asked him if he had met the election commission after he declared that he was the party president, Ramadoss said, "Hereafter, everything will happen properly at the right time." On opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami's objection to utilising temple funds to build academic institutions, Ramadoss said there was nothing wrong in it. To a question about the Union govt not allocating funds for Tamil Nadu, Ramadoss said, "The north thrives while the south declines. I would have demanded (funds from) the Prime Minister directly as he is my friend."
