'Every Moment With Thala...': CSK Wicketkeeper Posts Heartfelt Message For MS Dhoni
Drafted in as a replacement for Vansh Bedi by Chennai, Urvil made an immediate impression, dispatching the second ball he faced in the Indian Premier League for a six. 'Grateful for the incredible opportunity to play under the legendary leadership of MS Dhoni. Every moment with Thala, on and off the field, has been a masterclass in calmness, leadership and humility," Urvil posted on Instagram. Urvil's 31 off 11 deliveries helped set up Chennai's first successful 180-plus chase in more than six years. advetisement Urvil featured in only three knocks, one of which ended in a two-ball duck, but he showcased glimpses of the aggressive style that can make him a key power-hitter in IPL 2026. Urvil is older than his fellow CSK replacements Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis, at 26, but young enough to have spent a major chunk of his initial years working on his big-hitting skills. Against the Gujarat Titans in their last league game, Urvil got cracking with a six off Mohammed Siraj and, besides Devon Conway, took Chennai to 68/1, their joint-highest powerplay score in IPL 2025. Having come into the Indian Premier League with the reputation of being a pace-hitter in domestic cricket, Urvil took on the spin of R Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan too.

IPL: Urvil Patel joins Chennai Super Kings as replacement of Vansh Bedi
Chennai Super Kings have signed their third replacement of the season as Urvil Patel comes in for Vansh Bedi, the franchise announced on Monday. Vansh, who served as the backup to MS Dhoni as wicketkeeper batter, didn't get to play any game in season and will now miss the remainder of season due to a ligament tear in his left ankle. His replacement, Urvil Patel made headlines in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy when he smashed a 28-ball century — the joint-fastest T20 hundred by an Indian — against Tripura. The 26-year-old has featured in 47 T20 matches, scoring 1,162 runs. He was previously part of the Gujarat Titans squad in the 2023 season. Patel joins CSK at his base price of Rs 30 lakh and is unlikely to get a game given the wicketkeeper slot being occupied already. Say Yellove to Urvil Patel! 💪🏻💛 PS: This young lion has the joint fastest 💯 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to his credit! Roar loud and proud, Urvil! 🦁🥳 #WhistlePodu #Yellove 🦁💛 — Chennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) May 5, 2025 This is third replacement for CSK in season where they are already eliminated with just two wins from 11 games. Earlier, CSK signed teenage Mumbai sensation Ayush Mhatre after their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined from the season after a shoulder injury. Mhatre has been one of the few bright spots in otherwise a poor season for CSK. The second replacement came when young pacer Gurjapneet Singh was sidelined due to injury and the team decided to bring in South African youngster Dewald Brevis to replace him. Part of the Mumbai Indians setup before, Brevis was released ahead of the 2025 auction and went unsold in the auction. Eliminated from the playoff race, CSK are scheduled to face Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans in their remaining fixtures.

Good news for Dhoni's CSK, star player has…
Image credit: Source: Instagram Chennai Super Kings have announced the inclusion of Urvil Patel as an injury replacement for young wicketkeeper-batsman Vansh Bedi, who has been ruled out of IPL 2025 due to a ligament tear in his left ankle. The announcement comes midway through the season, as CSK continue to deal with multiple injuries within their squad. 22-year-old Vansh Bedi was poised to make his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and had been named in the playing XI. Unfortunately, a last-minute injury forced him out of the game, and Deepak Hooda replaced him. Medical assessment later confirmed a serious ligament tear, ending Bedi's campaign before it began. Image credit: Source: Instagram Prior to the official announcement, a family member of Urvil Patel hinted at his selection through social media. CSK had recently conducted mid-season trials, evaluating players like Urvil, Aman Khan, and Salman Nizar. Former India batter Wasim Jaffer also confirmed that Patel was among those called for trials by CSK. Urvil Patel, a 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Gujarat, holds the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian—reaching the milestone in just 28 balls against Tripura in the 2024–25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored 315 runs in six games with an average over 78 and a strike rate close to 230. In his overall T20 career, he has tallied 1162 runs in 47 matches, including two centuries. This is the third time CSK has had to bring in a replacement player this season due to injury. Earlier, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad played just five matches before injury ruled him out, prompting the team to sign 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre. Additionally, South African batter Dewald Brevis was roped in to replace Gurjapneet Singh. Urvil Patel now joins this list of injury-induced additions. CSK's season has been disappointing, both due to form and fitness issues. With just two wins from eleven matches, they are languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table. The team was officially the first to be knocked out of playoff contention, marking one of their poorest seasons in franchise history.
