Purani Dilli 6 best is yet to come: Owner Akash Nangia backs team plans despite narrow defeats
New Delhi [India], August 15 (ANI): With two wins from their first five matches, Purani Dilli 6 currently sit fifth in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 standings. Purani Dilli 6's season so far has been a mix of highs and lows, but the team is determined to turn the tide as they head into the second half of their campaign. Purani Dilli 6 started the second season 2 of the Delhi Premier League with a heavy defeat to Outer Delhi Warriors by 82 runs on August 5, but bounced back strongly with back-to-back wins, first overcoming West Delhi Lions by 15 runs on August 7, and then edging out New Delhi Tigers by 10 runs on August 8. However, momentum slipped with consecutive losses to North Delhi Strikers by 27 runs on August 10 and East Delhi Riders by five wickets on August 12, leaving them with two wins from five matches and a strong urge to bounce back in the remaining fixtures. With their next clash scheduled against South Delhi Superstarz on August 17, Purani Dilli 6 are using the four-day gap to reassess strategies, fine-tune skills, and reset mentally. "The last few matches have been close; they could have gone either way. In cricket, small moments decide big outcomes, and we've been on the wrong side of those margins a couple of times. But there's no panic in our camp," said Purani Dilli 6 owner Akash Nangia. "We trust our plans, we trust our players, and we know the kind of cricket we are capable of playing. This break is about working harder, correcting the fine details, and coming back stronger. We believe our best cricket is still ahead of us," he added. With five league matches remaining, the equation is simple for Purani Dilli 6: win all, build momentum, and keep playoff hopes alive. Their final group stage fixture is slated for August 27, where they will face South Delhi Superstarz again. Full squad: Vansh Bedi (captain), Rishabh Pant (marquee player), Lalit Yadav, Dev Lakra, Aayush Singh, Samarth Seth, Aarush Malhotra, Sarthak Pal, Agrim Sharma, Vivek Yadav, Yug Gupta, Udhav Mohan, Pranav Pant, Prince Mishra, Rushal Saini, Aaryan Kapoor, Pardeep Parashar, Ekansh Dobal, Aditya Malhotra, Rajneesh Dadar, Ashish Chaurasiya, Kush Nagpal, Dhruv Chauhan, Gaurav Saroha. 'Grateful for the incredible opportunity to play under the legendary leadership of MS Dhoni. Every moment with Thala, on and off the field, has been a masterclass in calmness, leadership and humility," Urvil posted on Instagram. Urvil is older than his fellow CSK replacements Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis, at 26, but young enough to have spent a major chunk of his initial years working on his big-hitting skills. Against the Gujarat Titans in their last league game, Urvil got cracking with a six off Mohammed Siraj and, besides Devon Conway, took Chennai to 68/1, their joint-highest powerplay score in IPL 2025. IPL: Urvil Patel joins Chennai Super Kings as replacement of Vansh Bedi
Chennai Super Kings have signed their third replacement of the season as Urvil Patel comes in for Vansh Bedi, the franchise announced on Monday. Vansh, who served as the backup to MS Dhoni as wicketkeeper batter, didn't get to play any game in season and will now miss the remainder of season due to a ligament tear in his left ankle. His replacement, Urvil Patel made headlines in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy when he smashed a 28-ball century — the joint-fastest T20 hundred by an Indian — against Tripura. The 26-year-old has featured in 47 T20 matches, scoring 1,162 runs. He was previously part of the Gujarat Titans squad in the 2023 season. Patel joins CSK at his base price of Rs 30 lakh and is unlikely to get a game given the wicketkeeper slot being occupied already. Say Yellove to Urvil Patel! 💪🏻💛 PS: This young lion has the joint fastest 💯 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to his credit! Roar loud and proud, Urvil! 🦁🥳 #WhistlePodu #Yellove 🦁💛 — Chennai Super Kings (@ChennaiIPL) May 5, 2025 This is third replacement for CSK in season where they are already eliminated with just two wins from 11 games. Earlier, CSK signed teenage Mumbai sensation Ayush Mhatre after their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined from the season after a shoulder injury. Mhatre has been one of the few bright spots in otherwise a poor season for CSK. The second replacement came when young pacer Gurjapneet Singh was sidelined due to injury and the team decided to bring in South African youngster Dewald Brevis to replace him. Part of the Mumbai Indians setup before, Brevis was released ahead of the 2025 auction and went unsold in the auction. Eliminated from the playoff race, CSK are scheduled to face Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans in their remaining fixtures.
