Crews battle 2 fires in different parts of city at same time Friday afternoon
Investigations are underway into two fires that broke out in different parts of the city at almost exactly the same time Friday.
At around 2:20 p.m., crews responded to reports of fire at an apartment building in the 0-100 block of Varsity Estate View N.W.
Crews arrived to discover residents evacuating and heavy smoke coming from one end of the building on the second floor.
They were able to locate the blaze in a resident's kitchen and put out the fire quickly. They also located one elderly resident, who was transported for treatment to a nearby ambulance.
Crews were able to limit the damage to a single unit. Nearby units were temporarily evacuated, but sustained no. damage.
At 2:30 p.m., crews responded to reports of a building fire on the 0-100 block of Wrexford CR S.W.
Crews discovered a single resident who had fled with their pets. Crews entered the home, where they were met with a high volume of smoke on the second floor.
They conducted a coordinated fire attack with ventilation to knock down the fire and remove the smoke at the same time.
The fire was limited to a second-floor bathroom. No one was injured.
