Everything we know so far about Stranger Things Season 5
The final season of the Duffer brothers' mega hit, Stranger Things, is set to bring the tale of Eleven, Hawkins and the Upside Down to an epic conclusion. Is there a trailer for Stranger Things Season 5? Not quite yet, though Netflix has released a teaser revealing all of the final season's episode titles, as well as a behind-the-scenes first look and a date announcement. Watch them in full below. Who is returning for Stranger Things Season 5? Series regulars Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Noah Schnapp (Will), Natalia Dyer (Nancy), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan), Joe Keery (Steve), Maya Hawke (Robin), Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Priah Ferguson (Erica), and Brett Gelman (Murray) all survived the Season 4 finale and will be returning. Joseph Quinn's Hellfire Club captain Eddie, a new fan favorite, sadly perished after being attacked by a swarm of Demobats in Episode 9. Mason Dye's vengeful jock Jason Carver was also killed—his body ripped apart by an interdimensional gate in the Creel House—as was Matthew Modine's Dr. Martin Brenner, who was shot by a US army sniper. Less certain? The fates of Paul Reiser's Dr. Sam Owens, who was last seen inside the Nina Project as it was attacked by the military; Jamie Campbell Bower's Vecna, who though temporarily defeated is believed to still be alive; and, of course, Sadie Sink's Max. In the season finale, Vecna's attack on the latter caused her heart to stop for over a minute and, even though Eleven was able to revive her, she was shown in a later scene to be in a coma. When Eleven then reached into her mind, she was unable to find her consciousness. While it's still unclear if Max will ever wake up, it's almost certain that Sink will make an appearance of some kind in Season 5. Look out for none other than Linda Hamilton in a yet-to-be-disclosed role. 'I love the show so much,' the Terminator star and '80s icon says in the first-look segment. 'I really am a fan.' The fourth season ended with the battle between Vecna and the residents of Hawkins coming out into the open for the first time: his attack on Max allowed the gates to open and rip through the neighborhood, causing an earthquake that claimed many lives. As the Upside Down began to invade Hawkins, the camera cut to black. So, as it stands, the mission for Season 5 appears to be to kill Vecna once and for all, and save what remains of their hometown. While further details are, understandably, being kept carefully under wraps, the Duffer brothers did speak about the project at a Netflix event on November 13, 2023. They described the final season as 'kind of a culmination of all the seasons, so it's got a little bit from each, whereas before, each season was so distinct—three is our big summer blockbuster season with our big monster; four was the psychological horror. I think that what we're trying to do [this time] is go back to the beginning a little bit, in sort of the tone of one. But also scale-wise, it's more aligned with what four is. So, hopefully, it's got a little bit of everything.' They also added that, although the supernatural elements of the show will remain centre stage, character development will be equally crucial. 'We have so many characters now, most of whom are still living, and it's important to wrap up those arcs,' they said. 'A lot of these characters have been growing since Season 1, so it's a balancing act between giving them time to complete their arcs and also tying up loose ends and doing our final reveals.' It's set to be an emotional conclusion, too. 'We did [make] our executives cry, which I felt was a good sign,' they said of the meeting in which they pitched the complete arc to Netflix. The other morsel fans were given? The title of the first episode of Season 5: 'Chapter One: The Crawl.' Let the speculation begin. Atsushi Nishijima Given that the Duffer brothers are currently in the early stages of writing the scripts for Season 5, it's unlikely that Stranger Things will be back on screens anytime soon. Back in July, David Harbour told GQ : 'I think we'll [shoot] next year. They're finishing writing it this year, and they need to prep and stuff. So it'd probably come out mid 2024, based on our track record.' That, for now, seems like the safest bet. When will Stranger Things Season 5 be released? 'Stranger Things' Season 5 release dates revealed: Episode titles, cast members — and what we know so far about the final season's release
Our favorite Indiana teens are coming back for one more round of interdimensional drama. Stranger Things is set to return this year for its fifth and final season, and with it, a continuation of the story that put fan favorites like Sadie Sink's Max in grave danger after a battle with Jamie Campbell Bower's villain Vecna. With so many questions still unanswered (will Max ever wake up from her coma? What will happen to the town of Hawkins now that the Upside Down is invading?!), it's hard to believe we're nearing the end of Stranger Things. Since its debut in the summer of 2016, the series has built a world filled with supernatural suspense, iconic characters (RIP Eddie!) and ride-or-die friendships. It's also a love letter to all things '80s, celebrating everything from Dungeons & Dragons to hanging at the roller rink — all with an epic synth soundtrack. Soon, we'll all be wistful for the series that made nostalgia cool. Here's everything we know so far about the upcoming season of Stranger Things. Season 4 of Stranger Things followed the Hawkins crew as they tried to stop Vecna, a powerful new villain with ties to Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). Vecna, once known as Henry Creel, was the first child experimented on by Dr. Brenner (Matthew Modine) in the Hawkins lab, but after Eleven defeated him as a child, he was sent to the Upside Down. At the beginning of the season, Vecna exacted his revenge with a string of teen murders, leading the gang to team up to defeat him. Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Max, Eleven, Will (Noah Schnapp), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Robin (Maya Hawke) worked together across different locations and dimensions to stop Vecna, but unfortunately, it didn't go quite as well as they hoped: In the season finale, Vecna's still around, Max is in a coma and the Upside Down is starting to take over the real world. Expect the holidays to get a little stranger this year. The first four episodes of the season, coined "Volume 1," will drop on Nov. 26 — the day before Thanksgiving. "Volume 2," with three episodes, is slated to drop on Christmas. The show won't release its final episode, "Volume 3," until New Year's Eve. This marks the first time that the series will release just one episode separately from the rest of the show — meaning that the last episode will be an event all its own. Each part is slated to drop at 5 p.m. PT on its release date. Netflix is planning on dropping all of these episodes at the same time worldwide. Stranger Things Season 5 will consist of eight episodes — and we already know their names. The final season of Stranger Things features eight episodes titled 'The Crawl,' 'The Vanishing of …,' 'The Turnbow Trap,' 'Sorcerer,' 'Shock Jock,' 'Escape from Camazotz,' 'The Bridge' and 'The Rightside Up.' While we don't know how long each Stranger Things episode will be, Wolfhard, who plays Mike, told Collider that while some episodes run closer to 45 minutes, we should expect others to be as long as a feature film. That checks out, given the longer runtime of Season 4's episodes — including the finale, which clocked in at two hours and 24 minutes. Ross Duffer, who cocreated the series with his brother Matt Duffer, said at the Next on Netflix event in January that they spent a full year filming the season, and that, by the end, they had captured over 650 hours of footage. 'So, needless to say, this is our biggest and most ambitious season yet,' he said. 'It's like eight blockbuster movies. It's pretty, pretty insane.' Stranger Things is adding new cast members Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly and Alex Breaux to the show's final season. And staying true to its pattern of casting '80s icons — like its star Winona Ryder and cast members like The Goonies star Sean Astin and Aliens' Paul Reiser — the series has also cast The Terminator's Linda Hamilton in a role that is still under wraps. Netflix released a short teaser for the upcoming season with its release date. While most of the clips are from previous seasons, we do get a sprinkle of new footage — including Will staring up at something big and shouting "Run!" Gulp. The show also released a behind-the-scenes video from the filming of the upcoming season. Matt Duffer revealed in a press release earlier this year that the new season has 'no time for a ramp-up,' meaning it's 'going to be intense from beginning to end.' And Ross noted that the new season will feel 'familiar' to longtime fans of the series. 'This season is the biggest it's ever been in scale, but everyone's back together in Hawkins, interacting the same way they were in Season 1.' According to the official Stranger Things episode title announcement, Season 5 picks up in the fall of 1987, more than a year after Season 4, which unfolds in March of 1986. But eagle-eyed fans noticed something quite interesting in footage of Harbour and Wolfhard filming Stranger Things in Atlanta, which is a stand-in for downtown Hawkins. On the set, there is reportedly a movie theater advertising Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade — a movie that came out in 1989, two years after the series picks up again. So it's possible, though hardly confirmed, that we may see our characters throughout a wider time span than in previous seasons. One of the bigger theories heading into Season 5 involves the resurrection of metalhead Eddie, played by Joseph Quinn. Eddie was tragically swarmed by demobats in Season 4, leading to his demise — but some think his manner of death is a clue that he could return in a new form. It all has to do with the Dungeons & Dragons story of Kas the Bloody-Handed, a warrior who was killed by Vecna and later resurrected as a bloodsucker. So far, though, Quinn has not confirmed a return to the Netflix series … but if this is the case, it's not like he would ruin the surprise. Another theory points to how Stranger Things might end — and it's pretty depressing for Eleven. One theory popular with fans is that Eleven will take Vecna's place as the ruler of the Upside Down, but instead of it being a dark, gloomy hellscape, she'll use her psychic abilities to create a paradise. That means, of course, she'll leave dad Hopper and boyfriend Mike in the real world … unless they can vacation there on school breaks?! You can learn more about Vecna's backstory in the special-effects-heavy stage show Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which began its run in London's West End before setting up shop on Broadway as well. While there's no Eleven, Mike or any of the other Hawkins teens, the play does take audiences back to the small Indiana town circa 1959, when Hopper and Joyce were in high school.

Netflix has clarified that the last season of Stranger Things will be released in three parts on November 26, December 25, and December 31 respectively. This is the second time Stranger Things has released a season in segments, with the first seven episodes of the fourth season released on May 27 and the final two episodes withheld until July 1. Netflix is giving fans a big holiday present and the end of this year with a three-part release of Stranger Things season 5. During Netflix's live Tudum fan event, we got all the details about the highly anticipated final season of Matt and Ross Duffer's global hit series. The three-part release of Stranger Things 5 will all come near the fall and winter holidays -- four episodes on the day before Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 26; three episodes on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25; and the finale on New Year's Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 31. Three years have passed since the show's fourth season premiered on Netflix, with a nerve-jangling run of episodes that introduced Vecna -- the biggest bad of the series -- while setting the stage for an ultimate showdown between the kids of Hawkins, Indiana, and the dream-invading hell-raiser. Stranger Things 4's ending alluded to a hell-on-earth scenario looming on the horizon. The new eight-episode adventure will pick up 18 months later, in the fall of 1987. Yes, we're still in the '80s even though the cast members are full-fledged adults now. Just go with it. Last season's finale found Eleven processing the earth-shattering realization that, during her time undergoing experiments led by Papa (Matthew Modine), she inadvertently created Vecna and the Upside Down. A collection of Nightmare on Elm Street-inspired kills throughout the episodes helped to unlock the veil separating the netherworld and the real one. Thanks to Will's psychic connection to the beast, we know Vecna is going to come back bigger and badder than before. By the look of things, the whole cast is back at it for one final go-round: Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Winona Ryder, David Harbour and Brett Gelman are all here. The long, long wait for Stranger Things 5 is almost over. Netflix has finally revealed the release date for the show's fifth and final season: November 26. At least, that's when the first part will drop. Just like Season Four, Stranger Things 5 will be released in chunks, so you won't be able to binge it all in one go from the outset. Volume One, which will have four episodes, comes out on November 26 at 8PM ET (5PM PT), followed a month later by three episodes for Volume Two on Christmas (December 25) and the final episode on New Year's Eve (December 31). If you need a little refresher on where we're picking back up with the Hawkins crew — I sure do — here's the synopsis for Season Five: The fall of 1987.
