Kalikiri Sainik school girls' finish runner-up in national hockey tournament
The under-17 girls' hockey team of Sainik school, Kalikiri, in Annamayya district, secured second place in the All-India Sainik Schools National Girls' Hockey Tournament at Sainik school, Amaravathinagar, in Tamil Nadu, which was held from July 21 to 30.
A press release on Wednesday said that this was the first time a national-level girls' hockey tournament was held among Sainik schools. The 16-member Kalikiri team advanced to the final after defeating teams from Mainpuri, Kapurthala, and Sambalpur. In the final, Kalikiri faced Sainik school, East Siang, and lost by a narrow 1-2 margin. Cadet Veda Pragna was named best goalkeeper of the tournament.
The principal of Sainik school, Kalikiri, congratulated the team and said that the school will continue to support cadets in both academics and sports.
