Vedika wins title at US Kids Golf as Aida finishes third; Nihal, Kabir in top-10
Pinehurst (North Carolina) [US], August 4 (ANI): Vedika Bhansali of Bengaluru emerged as the champion at the US Kids World Championship golf at Pinehurst Village. Playing in the Girls 9 years category, Vedika shot her best nine-hole round of the week with 4-under 32, and for the second time in three days, it was bogey-free. With 33-33-32, she totalled 10-under and beat Japan's Emi Minami by one shot and American Audrey Zhang by two. Vedika, who was fourth a year ago, had just one bogey in three rounds, each of which is nine holes for her age group. As Vedika picked the gold another Bengaluru golfer, Aida Thimmaiah (75-68-66) was third in Girls 11 Category. Aida's final round was brilliant as she shot 6-under 66 and totalled 7-under to finish third. The runaway winner was American Bella Simoes (66-62-67) at 21-under while Ananya Venkataraghavan (70-69-67), granddaughter of former India cricketer S Venkataraghavan, was second at 10-under. Ananya is now based in the United States and represents the US. Two other Indians finished in the top-8. Last year's medallist, Chandigarh's Nihal Cheema, was Tied-fourth in the Boys 8 category with cards of 38-39-35. In Boys 10, Noida's Kabir Goyal shot 72-70-68 and finished eighth. Vedika still 2nd at US Kids World golf as Aida rises to 5th and Ojaswini stays 9th
Pinehurst [US], August 3 (ANI): Vedika Bhansali of Bengaluru maintained her tied second position after the second round of the US Kids World Championship golf at Pinehurst Village. Vedika, who was fourth a year ago, has shot two rounds of 33 each, and at six-under, she is still one shot behind the leader, Audrey Zhang of the US (32-33). After a bogey-free first round, Vedika began with a bogey but had four birdies in her remaining eight holes to get to 3-under 33 in the nine-hole round for Girls 9 Category. Aida Thimmaiah, after a 75 on the first day, produced a superb 4-under 68 with five birdies and just one bogey to climb 18 places from T-23 to Tied-fifth. Ojaswini Saraswat stayed in tied ninth place despite improving her score by two shots as she followed her first round 70 with a 68, and at 6-under, she is tied-9th. She is three shots behind the leaders, Riviera Lindholm of Canada and Zara Stanley of the US, who are both at 9-under. There are three Indians in the Top-10 after the second day, and one more day is left. Also in with a chance to get into the Top-10 is Nihal Cheema, despite slipping two places from T-12 to T-14 as he shot 3-over 39 in his 9-hole second round in the Boys 8 category. Vedika lies second in US Kids World Championship, Ojaswini is ninth
Pinehurst (US), Aug 1 (PTI) Indian golfers Vedika Bhansali and Ojaswini Saraswat made promising starts to find a place in the top-10 after the opening day of the US Kids World Championship golf at Pinehurst Village here. Bengaluru's Vedika with a bogey-free 3-under 33 was tied-second with five others and was one shot behind the leader, Audrey Zhang of the US. Ojaswini from Mohali, a former medallist at the US Kids World Championship, was Tied-ninth in Girls 12 after a card of 2-under. She was runner-up in Girls 11 a year ago and is looking at going one better. Vedika, who was fourth a year ago in Girls 8 category, had three birdies and Ojaswini, runner-up last year in Girls 11, had three birdies and dropped her only shot on the 18th at the Longleaf club. Chandigarh golfer Nihal Cheema, who was runner-up on Boys 7 in 2024, had just one birdie against two bogeys in his nine-hole round at Mid Pines (Black). Cheema, playing in Boys 8 Category this year, was placed Tied-12th.
