‘Declare Rajendra Chola's birthday as world water management day'
Bharatiya Kisan Sangh State secretary N. Veerasekaran has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare the day of Aadi Thiruvathirai, the birth star of Rajendra Chola I, as World Water Management Day in memory of the Chola emperor.
In a representation addressed to the Prime Minister, Mr. Veerasekaran highlighted the water management legacy of the Chola dynasty, particularly Rajendra Chola's contributions. Interconnected tanks, lakes, and sluices created under the dynasty formed a sustainable water grid, which continues to support agriculture in the Cauvery delta. Mr. Veerasekaran also urged the Centre to instituted awards for farmers, panchayat leaders, engineers, and institutions contributing to water conservation.
