Evan Engram facing a jersey number dilemma with the Broncos Devaughn Vele wore No. 86 when he arrived at Utah in 2019 before later switching to No. 17. When he joined the Denver Broncos last spring, Vele initially chose No. 81. Lil'Jordan Humphrey switching back to No. 84 (which he wore with the New Orleans Saints) allowed Vele to switch to No. 17 last summer. Another change could be on the way. The Broncos are bringing in star tight end Evan Engram, who wore No. 17 at Ole Miss and then No. 88 with the New York Giants. When he joined the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022, Engram switched back to his old college number. After receiving a $23 million contract from Denver that includes an $8 million signing bonus, Engram might be able to convince Vele to loan him No. 17 for a small (or perhaps not-so-small) fee. When the Broncos drafted Bo Nix last year, Zach Wilson owned No. 10, but he later switched to No. 4, allowing Denver's rookie QB to wear his college number in the NFL.
