VELVET TACO PARTNERS WITH KIDD'S KIDS TO DEBUT 'THE MORNING SHOW' WTF
Dallas taco innovators join forces with nonprofit to serve up bold flavors while supporting local children's charity, starting Aug. 13 DALLAS, Aug. 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Velvet Taco, the globally inspired taco concept, has launched a new partnership with Dallas-based nonprofit Kidd's Kids to create "The Morning Show" WTF (Weekly Taco Feature), available at all Velvet Taco locations Aug. 13-19, with proceeds benefiting children with life-threatening and life-altering conditions. Named in honor of Kidd's Kids founder Kidd Kraddick's popular Dallas-based Kidd Kraddick Morning Show, The Morning Show WTF delivers the ultimate breakfast-meets-taco experience. Crispy chicken tenders, fluffy eggs, cheesy tot hash, peppered bacon and maple syrup are all wrapped in a signature tie-dye waffle tortilla. "The Morning Show WTF is special in that it not only benefits Kidd's Kids, but it was also named and created with two children who are a part of Kidd's Kids," said Velvet Taco Director of Culinary Venecia Willis. "We wanted to make sure this taco represented the fun and vibrancy of the kids and families it benefits, all the way down to featuring the kids' favorite colors with pink and teal. The Morning Show WTF represents everything we stand for — bold flavors, community connection and making a positive impact." Sales of The Morning Show WTF will help support the 2025 Kidd's Kids trip to Disney World, which sends 32 deserving kids to the Orlando resort each year. "Kidd's Kids has always been about bringing our community together, and this partnership with Velvet Taco does exactly that," said Lyndsay Davis, executive director of Kidd's Kids. After less than a year, this taco spot from Texas is closed in Wynwood
There's one less taco shop in Wynwood, once the epicenter of the taco world in South Florida. The latest casualty of the brutal summer of 2025 is Velvet Taco, the brand from Dallas that opened at 2820 NW Second Ave. in Miami in the fall of 2024. Now, the restaurant is closed, according to Yelp, its location wiped from the brand's website. A phone call to the remaining South Florida Velvet Taco confirmed the closing; the Fort Lauderdale restaurant, which opened in 2023 at 305 S. Andrews Ave. at Riverwalk, remains open. There was no word on why the Wynwood restaurant closed, but Wynwood has long drawn taco spots, almost to a comical (and maybe worrisome) extent. Among them are the upscale Bakan; the casual Tacology; The Taco Stand, which is home to the secret Michelin-starred omakase spot Hiden; the South Florida brand Talkin' Tacos; the recent arrival Tacos Atarantados from Mexico, which is located inside Sala de Despecho; the Mexican chain Tacombi from the Yucatan; and the granddaddy of them all, Coyo Taco, which celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this year. Velvet Taco Wynwood boasted not only a 48-seat dining room but also a large outdoor patio and the brand's first cocktail bar as well as more than 20 taco recipes including spicy tikka chicken; the Cuban Pig with slow-roasted pulled pork; and beer-battered cauliflower. There were also the Weekly Taco Features (WTFs), new recipes that changed every seven days, like the Pride brunch burger taco served in a rainbow waffle tortilla. And no matter how many tacos they tried, true fans never wanted to skip the famous red velvet cake dessert. The brand, which was created in Dallas by Randy DeWitt and Jack Gibbons in 2011, has almost 50 locations across eight states and is eyeing international expansion.

It's 4/20: Here's where to score some food deals
April 20, or '4/20,' is the unofficial holiday for cannabis culture. While the origins of 'weed day' are a bit hazy — the most widely accepted story traces back to a group of California high schoolers who met at 4:20 pm to smoke marijuana — 4/20 has gained mainstream recognition in the United States and many other countries. With recreational cannabis now legal in 24 states and Washington, DC, and medical use approved in 39 states, businesses are rolling out freebies, promos and limited-edition drops to mark the occasion. But you don't have to be part of cannabis culture for these deals, including burgers, cookies and more. Whether you're partaking or just hungry for a good deal, a range of restaurants and fast food chains are dishing out 4/20-inspired promos. Here's where to satisfy your cravings: Jimmy John's: The new THC (Totally Hot Chips) Box includes a sandwich, chips, cookie and a mystery surprise. Velvet Taco: Back for the day, the 420 Blazin' Taco is packed with mac and cheese, Flamin' Hot Cheetos chicken tenders, chile aioli and fruity pebbles — all wrapped in a flour tortilla for $4.20. Moe's Southwest Grill: Moe Rewards members get $5 off any $20+ order placed through the app, through April 20. Red Lobster: Select locations are serving up a $4.20 cocktail made with Still G.I.N. by Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, plus a Skittles sidecar. Buffalo Wild Wings: Rewards members can grab a free sandwich with a $15 order, or get 10 free boneless wings with a $20 purchase. Popeyes: The Munchies Menu — available only through the app or website — features limited-time offers, including $4.20 sandwiches. Smashburger: Score four Classic Smash Singles for $20, in-store, online or via the app. Insomnia Cookies: Use code GOODSTUFF for $4.20 off a Deluxe Six-Pack. Get free delivery on $15+ orders with GARDENING, and starting April 18, score a free mini flowerpot keychain in-store while supplies last. Little Red Kitchen Bake Shop: The woman-owned cookie company is offering 15% off all orders through April 30 with code MUNCHIES. Cannabis laws vary by state. Check your local regulations before making a purchase. Offers listed are subject to availability and may vary by location. Must be 21+ to purchase or consume cannabis where legal.
