Tirupati hosts ‘Yogandhra 2025' to promote month-long awareness drive
Tirupati: In a spirited lead-up to the International Yoga Day on June 21, a curtain-raiser event titled 'Yogandhra 2025' was held at Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) in Tirupati on Wednesday. The event aimed to generate extensive awareness and momentum for the upcoming global celebration of yoga. District Collector Dr S Venkateswar, Superintendent of Police V Harshavardhan Raju, City MLA A Srinivasulu, Joint Collector Shubham Bansal, and other dignitaries formally inaugurated the programme and participated in a 45-minute yoga session alongside yoga instructors and public representatives. Speaking on the occasion, Collector Dr Venkateswar said that yoga should become an integral part of everyone's daily life. 'While global interest in yoga is steadily increasing, there is still a need to spread greater awareness about its benefits for both physical and mental well-being,' he noted. He added that the state government has declared a month-long yoga campaign from May 21 to June 21 to reach all sections of society. Dr Venkateswar stressed the need to promote yoga in urban wards, mandals, village panchayats, and even in remote areas of the Tirupati district. 'It is our collective responsibility to educate the public about the positive impacts of regular yoga practice,' he said. City MLA A Srinivasulu said that yoga should not be restricted to June 21 alone, but be embraced as a daily routine. He shared that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan plan to mark International Yoga Day with a massive event in Visakhapatnam involving five lakh participants. He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the event. 'After Surat's Guinness record in 2023 with 1.53 crore participants, Andhra Pradesh aims to set a new record with two crore people,' he added. SP Harshavardhan Raju urged people to participate in mass yoga events to enhance the state's prestige. 'Yoga must be made a lifestyle choice by everyone,' he said, echoing the call for widespread awareness. The event was also attended by SPMVV Vice-Chancellor Prof V Uma, Registrar Prof N Rajani, DRO G Narasimhulu, RDO Rammohan, among others.

Soaring temperatures prompt heat awareness drive in Swarnandhra campaign
Tirupati: District Collector Dr S Venkateswar on Saturday urged people to stay cautious in view of the soaring summer temperatures, which have prompted authorities to choose 'Beat the Heat' as the theme for this month's 'Swarnandhra – Swachh Andhra' campaign. Participating in the programme at Naidupet in Sullurpet constituency, the Collector reminded that the campaign has been held on the third Saturday of every month since January, with a new theme each time to address local and seasonal issues. He said, 'May has seen an alarming rise in temperatures, often crossing 42°C in several regions. With heatwave conditions intensifying since April, we are taking special measures to ensure people, especially children and the elderly, are not adversely affected. As part of the campaign, Dr Venkateswar noted that initiatives such as planting saplings, setting up free drinking water kiosks, and placing water troughs for birds and animals under the employment guarantee scheme were being actively pursued. Distribution of ORS packets to households is also underway to help prevent dehydration. He called on citizens to participate actively in door-to-door waste collection to ensure effective waste segregation. Sullurpet MLA N Vijayasree, who also took part in the event, stressed the importance of public participation in maintaining cleanliness. 'If everyone keeps their surroundings clean, we can prevent many health issues,' she stated. Ahead of the main programme, the District Collector and the MLA planted saplings along both sides of the road near Gomati Centre. Later, they inaugurated facilities for bird care – providing millets, drinking water, and shaded shelters at Gandhi Municipal Park. Former MP Nelavala Subrahmanyam, Naidupet Municipal Chairperson Katakam Deepika, Vice-Chairman Sheikh Rafi, Municipal Commissioner Fazlulla, Tahsildar Rajendra, and several other officials took part.

Infra projects to get a big push in Tirupati dist
Tirupati: To accelerate key infrastructure projects, the Tirupati district administration is expediting land acquisition and construction activities for National Highway and Railway developments. At a virtual high-level review meeting held on Tuesday, District Collector Dr S Venkateswar instructed revenue officials to address all pending land-related issues in a time-bound and structured manner. Dr Venkateswar stressed the need to resolve issues affecting the six-lane road and Tirupati Bypass, as well as the four-lane Renigunta–Chennai road. He asked revenue divisional officers to coordinate closely with National Highway authorities to ensure progress under Packages 2, 3, and 4 of the Sagarmala scheme. Quality and timely execution must be ensured, he said. The Collector announced that land acquisition for the Nadikudi–Srikalahasti railway line is complete, and directed officials to commence construction works without delay. He also called for fast-tracking railway projects in Renigunta, Pudi, Gudur, Pakala, and Tirupati city. Further, he urged officials to speed up land acquisition for the Renigunta–Tiruchanur railway line and resolve issues hindering the Tirupati–Renigunta Bypass. The meeting was attended by National Highway Project Directors Venkatesh (Tirupati) and M K Chowdhary (Nellore), Gudur Sub-Collector Raghavendra Meena, RDOs Kiranmayee (Sullurupeta) and Bhanuprakash Reddy (Srikalahasti), along with tahsildars of the concerned mandals.
