RI's Verdi Productions unveils 'The Roaring Game,' a rom-com with a curling twist
PROVIDENCE – The premiere of "The Roaring Game," a romantic comedy from East Greenwich's Verdi Productions, will highlight the Saturday night lineup of the Rhode Island International Film Festival on Aug. 9. Written and directed by Cranston's Tom DeNucci and starring Mickey Rourke, Justin Chatwin and William Forsythe, with cameos by former New England Patriot Rob Gronkowski, "The Roaring Game" tells the story of high school custodian Rickey, who loses everything when his girlfriend is picked to play hockey for Team USA. Rickey looks to win her back by forming a misfit curling team and going for the gold, capturing the nation's heart in the process. "It really was a lot of fun making this movie," said Chad A. Verdi, chief executive of the production company, who added that the feelings of the cast and crew should be evident and transfer right to audiences. A script 15 years in the works Besides being fun, the movie was also a long time coming. "I hired Tommy to write this script 15 years ago," when curling was still viewed by many as an oddball sport. As Verdi looked forward to the Winter Olympics, he called DeNucci. "I said, 'Tommy, break out the curling script.'" Which underscores the timeliness of the story. "It needs to be released around the Olympics," he said. To buy tickets for the premiere, visit the Rhode Island International Film Festival website. Tickets can also be bought at the door. How the 'Roaring Game' was made Filming took place in September and October, and included 250 to 300 extras. The cast is rounded out by Darin Brooks, Fivel Stewart, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Vanessa Angel, Antwon Tanner, John Fiore, Paul Johansson, Jonathan Stoddard, Brett Azar, Eric Lutes and Rob Goon. The movie was produced by Chad A. Verdi, Michele Verdi, Chad Verdi Jr., Paul Luba and Anthony Gudas. Verdi is negotiating with distributors to release "The Roaring Game" in the November-through-February time frame. The Saturday night premiere of "The Roaring Game" will also include a trailer for "Sleepwalker," starring Hayden Panettiere, filmed in Rhode Island in February by Verdi Productions in association with Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way Productions. "Sleepwalker" is a psychological thriller about a grieving mother who is haunted by the tragic death of her young daughter and who becomes plagued by haunting visions as the lines between reality and nightmare blur. It is expected to be released in early 2026. This article originally appeared on The Providence Journal: RI Film Fest heats up with premiere of 'The Roaring Game' Solve the daily Crossword

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio Producing Ted Griffin's Action Thriller CARTHAGE MUST BE DESTROYED — GeekTyrant
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are jumping on board a new film project as producers. It's titled Carthage Must Be Destroyed , a new action thriller helmed by Ocean's Eleven writer Ted Griffin. Griffin, known for sharp scripts and layered storytelling, is directing from his own screenplay. The story centers on 'a stranger happens upon a rust-belt city in decline, ruled by its criminal underworld. Using brain and brawn, he sows distrust and creates chaos, in order to dismantle the corrupt power structure.' Chad A. Verdi of Verdi Productions, who's helping to lead the charge on this project, described it as 'a dynamic project' and added: 'It's a pleasure to be collaborating with Marty, Leo, Jen, Gareth and Chris, and our extraordinary producing team will elevate this project to new heights.' Production is currently slated to begin this October in Rhode Island, with casting now underway. Financing is being handled by Verdi Productions and Ketchup Entertainment, with Sikelia Productions (Scorsese), Appian Way (DiCaprio), and LBI Entertainment also backing the project. Executive producers include Scorsese, DiCaprio, Lisa Frechette, Sera Verdi, and Jennifer Davisson. On the production side, you'll also find Verdi, Gareth West, Christopher Donnelly, Michelle Verdi, Chad Verdi Jr., and Paul Luba—making this a seriously packed team behind the scenes. I'm up for a hard-edged action project from the guy who wrote Ocean's Eleven . I'm curious to see how this movie played out. Source: Deadline

Last Updated: Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are producing 'Carthage Must Be Destroyed,' directed by Ted Griffin. Filming starts in Rhode Island in October. Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are teaming up once again, but this time they're not making a movie together as actor and director. Instead, they'll be producing an exciting new action thriller called Carthage Must Be Destroyed. The film will be directed by Ted Griffin, who is best known for writing Ocean's Eleven. The story follows a mysterious stranger who arrives in a rundown city that's controlled by criminals. Using his brains and strength, he begins to stir up trouble, turning people against each other to take down the corrupt leaders who run the place. It's expected to be a fast-paced, clever film with a dark, gritty setting. Filming is planned to begin in Rhode Island this October, and the team is currently looking for actors to bring the story to life. Although the cast hasn't been revealed yet, with such a strong production team behind it, fans are expecting big names to be involved. The movie is being made by several production companies, including Scorsese's Sikelia Productions and DiCaprio's Appian Way, along with Verdi Productions and Ketchup Entertainment. Alongside Scorsese and DiCaprio, producers Chad A. Verdi, Jennifer Davisson, Gareth West, and Christopher Donnelly are also helping to bring the project together. He believes that Ted Griffin's strong screenplay will make for a gripping film. Scorsese and DiCaprio have worked on several big movies together in the past, like The Wolf of Wall Street, The Aviator, and Shutter Island. While they won't be directing or acting in this one, their influence will be felt behind the scenes. First Published:
