Former Rockstar Technical Director Thinks GTA 4 Should Be Remastered
Image via Rockstar Games. Is GTA 4 getting a remaster? At least, the rumors say so. But a former Rockstar Games veteran thinks the game should be remastered, irrespective of all the rumors. Right now the whole gaming world is hyped up about GTA 6. Initially the game was slated to be released in the fall of 2025. However, recently the game was hit with a surprise delay to May 26, 2026. But that didn't stop the hype train because Rockstar recently launched the highly awaited Trailer 2 of the game. Amidst all the fire-works regarding the upcoming title, some rumors are surfacing on the internet that GTA 4 might get a remastered version. Is it true? Former Rockstar dev wants GTA 4 to be remastered GTA 4 needs a remastered version. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trending in in 2025: Local network access control [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo The internet world is now filled with the rumors of GTA 4 getting a potential remastered version. However, former technical director at Rockstar Games, Obbe Vermeij, isn't aware of that. But when he heard about those rumors in the Twitter comment section, he also voiced his support for a remastered version of GTA 4, keeping in mind the recent numbers of successful remasters. Vermeij served Rockstar from 1995 to 2009. So, he was in the company from the very beginning of the Grand Theft Auto franchise and was one of the main architects behind GTA 4. So, who knows better about this highly underrated title than him? Highly underrated because GTA 4 never got the recognition it always deserved. It was a huge leap, both graphical and gameplay wise, from GTA 3. Some even consider GTA 4 to be the best game in the franchise. Yes, GTA 4 might never match the expansiveness or the visual quality of GTA 5, but the way it took people to the immense narrative depth was absolutely stunning. Not only that, unlike GTA 5, GTA 4 was run by only a single protagonist, Niko Bellic . And Vermeij himself thinks Niko is the best protagonist ever in the whole franchise. Even Rockstar itself never cared about this particular installment that much. Despite its narrative and gameplay brilliance, GTA 4 stands as probably the poorly optimized title of the franchise. This is the reason GTA 5 was released on PCs almost two years after its console release, and GTA 6 might take longer . GTA 4 is not even available on current gen consoles as well. Hence, a remastered version of this underrated title is needed. Read More: Is GTA 6 secretly bringing back a lost feature from GTA 4? Former Rockstar dev says no more GTA 6 trailers needed before release
Source: Rockstar Games As hype for Grand Theft Auto 6 builds, former Rockstar Games technical director Obbe Vermeij has entered the fray with a radical opinion regarding the game's marketing campaign. After the record-breaking success of GTA 6's initial trailer in December 2023, Vermeij feels that Rockstar should keep further trailers under wraps. Why? The hype for GTA 6 is already at a record high, and keeping some surprise factor could make the eventual release of the game even more effective. Former Rockstar developer advises skipping extra trailers Obbe Vermeij, who was a part of the GTA series until 2008, commented on the marketing strategy for GTA 6 in a recent tweet. He believed that there is far too much hype around the game since the launch of its first trailer, and any further trailers would water down the anticipation until launch. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo Vermeij explained, "If it was my call I wouldn't release any additional trailers," implying that silence would make the game's launch a real event. In a subsequent reply, Vermeij went so far as to suggest that Rockstar could announce GTA 6's release date with no additional promotional content, labeling it a "boss move." This notion resonates with Rockstar's history of holding things close to the heart and revealing only what is needed. Since the game's release date falls in fall 2025, the rumors persist regarding whether additional trailers will be published beforehand. The excitement about GTA 6 and the marketing campaign by Rockstar GTA 6's first trailer, which debuted to record-breaking viewership in December 2023, set the stage for massive expectations. Since then, fans' desire for more content has only intensified, giving rise to wild conspiracy theories and intense analysis of every detail shown in the trailer. Some of the fans have even dissected what appear to be trivial details such as car bullet holes and Lucia's cell door net in an attempt to uncover concealed clues. In spite of this craze, Vermeij's analysis of the marketing strategy fits into Rockstar's generally closed attitude. Rockstar has a track record of keeping things under wraps until the very last minute, and the company might choose to do the same with GTA 6. As Vermeij noted, the ultimate choice might boil down to the "decision day" for the game, as was the case with GTA 4 when the release date for the game was pushed back mere months from launch. As the anticipation for GTA 6 lingers, the argument about its marketing campaign grows stronger. While fans are waiting with bated breath for new information, Obbe Vermeij's words imply that sometimes less is more when it comes to the game's promotional content. If Rockstar chooses to go minimal, it would definitely maintain the hype at a fever pitch, and GTA 6's launch would be a moment in gaming history that would never be forgotten. GTA 6 delay concerns creep in again amid trailer 2 speculation
GTA 6 fans are concerned the game could be receiving a delay, after reading old posts from an ex-Rockstar employee. Rockstar Games announced GTA 6 back in December 2023, kicking off the announcement with a trailer. Along with the trailer also came a release window: 2025. Despite the hype behind it, we have yet to see a second trailer or even any screenshots. will be the first Grand Theft Auto game since 2013. And as we slowly approach a year and a half since the announcement, the question of whether the game could see a delay has been often repeated by fans. Last year, ex-Rockstar employee Obbe Vermeij posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the decision to delay GTA 6 would only come at a critical time – around 4 months from the original release date. "The decision to delay GTA IV was made 4 months or so before the original release date," Vermeij wrote. "Any further and it's hard to make the call. R* is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish. "Also: GTA VI will sell for 10+ years and there is no competition to worry about. They are not going to release the game until they're 100% happy with it. No matter what it said in the trailer. I have no inside info. Didn't talk to anyone."The decision to delay gtaIV was made 4 months or so before the original release date. Any further and it's hard to make the call. "If they delay it better show something like gameplay or give us something," wrote on user on Reddit. "I'm optimistic because I think the delay already happened and GTA was supposed to be spring 2025 game," another fan wrote. "At the same time though, everything they've done so far has been completely different from their previous releases," another comment wrote. "So it's not insane to think the delay trend might also change. However, of course, a delay is always a possibility." If a GTA 6 delay does indeed happen, we'd probably hear about it soon. Considering Rockstar's dedication to making polished experiences, any kind of delay would be made for a good reason.

Veteran GTA dev says Rockstar should make a GTA 4 remaster, but "it would be better" if it was a "quality remaster" this time
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. A fan-made GTA Vice City mod that ports the game to GTA 4 had its YouTube page taken down by Take-Two, and while a former Rockstar dev says it's just doing what companies do, it would be better if it made quality remakes itself. Last week, the YouTube channel that was sharing videos about Vice City: Nextgen Edition was taken down by Take-Two and the modders released the mod as a free standalone download in retaliation. They're based in Russia, so it seems like it will be difficult for Rockstar to do anything about the mod itself. This comes shortly after the company also shut down a mod that aimed to port GTA 4 into GTA 5, named The Liberty City preservation project. Ex-Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij tweets: "Take2/R* are a commercial company. They will take down mods that interfere with their business interests [...] The Liberty City preservation project would interfere with a possible GTA 4 remaster. (No idea whether they're working on that. I think they should)." I agree. I've been wanting to return to GTA 4 for some time now, but the thought of having to reconnect my PS3 and its tiny controllers or get a terrible PC port annoys me. I also don't know if I trust Rockstar to make a decent remake. Just look at how bad the Definitive Edition was for GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. One person replies: "What irritates me and I believe irritates other players is that this fan mod is literally what we wanted in the GTA trilogy, man, it's impressive, it's bizarre to think that no one at Rockstar thought of this, they preferred to release a simple remaster without updating." Vermeij agrees, adding, "It would be better if R* did quality remasters of their classic games." It's a shame Rockstar takes this approach, because companies like Bethesda seem more than happy to let people get on with modding games, even if some developers find the practice bittersweet. In the meantime, check out our ranking of the best GTA games. My favorite will always be San Andreas.
