Mary Ann Alexander Unveils Bold New Single ‘Good Girl', Blending Seduction, Vulnerability And Power
Mary Ann Alexander releases Good Girl, a bold R&B-pop single co-written with Adiel Massar, exploring modern love's dance between power and vulnerability.
Kerala-born and Bengaluru-based singer-songwriter Mary Ann Alexander is back with her latest single, Good Girl — a sultry yet emotionally rich track that redefines how modern romance is portrayed in music. Released on August 12, 2025, the song is co-written and produced by Shillong multi-instrumentalist Adiel Massar (aka adL), and fuses 2000s-inspired R&B nostalgia with sleek, contemporary pop production.
The track is a sonic tightrope walk between strength and surrender. Over hypnotic layers of synths, pulsing basslines, and delicate cello flourishes, Mary Ann explores what it means to embrace vulnerability on your own terms. Her vocals, shifting seamlessly from whispered intimacy to soaring refrains, create a mood that is at once dark, playful, and unapologetically bold.
Speaking about the song, Mary Ann explains, ''Good Girl' is about that playful dance between power and vulnerability. Choosing to be soft doesn't make you weak—it shows you trust yourself enough to let someone in. It's about being in a relationship where both partners feel like the prize, where you can be wild and worshipped, someone's good girl without losing any part of who you are."
A Music Video as Striking as the Song
Accompanying Good Girl is a visually arresting music video co-directed with Anushka Agarwalla. Filmed in an abandoned building, the video's minimalist yet charged aesthetic plays with the dynamic between two contrasting personas: a soft, curious figure armed with a handycam, and a dominant, shadowy 'kidnapper" figure. The two face off over a chess game — a symbolic struggle for control — culminating in the kidnapper's victory and the symbolic binding of Mary Ann in chains.
The closing reveal, that both personas are in fact two sides of the same person, adds a psychological layer, framing the narrative as an internal negotiation between surrender and self-possession. Costume design heightens the symbolism, with flowing white layers signifying vulnerability and dark, structured attire embodying dominance.
Good Girl follows the success of Mary Ann's The Lovey Dovey Song and adds another feather to her cap in a career marked by genre fluidity and emotional honesty. Since her debut, the artist has collaborated with some of India's most exciting musical talents, from Tarang Joseph to Nate08, and contributed to film soundtracks in Malayalam and Hindi cinema.
Her style draws from early 2000s R&B warmth, blending it with modern pop and hip-hop sensibilities — a combination that has earned her performances at major festivals like Magnetic Fields, Echoes of Earth, and Vh1 Supersonic. Endorsed by industry figures such as Sid Sriram and Neeraj Madhav, she is increasingly seen as one of the defining voices of India's next musical wave.
With Good Girl, Mary Ann Alexander proves once again that she isn't just making songs — she's crafting layered experiences that blur the lines between audio, visual, and emotional storytelling. The single, released via UnitedMasters, is now streaming on all major platforms.
