Earnings Miss: Viant Technology Inc. Missed EPS By 16% And Analysts Are Revising Their Forecasts
One of the biggest stories of last week was how Viant Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:DSP) shares plunged 26% in the week since its latest annual results, closing yesterday at US$15.09. Statutory earnings per share of US$0.14 unfortunately missed expectations by 16%, although it was encouraging to see revenues of US$289m exceed expectations by 2.1%. This is an important time for investors, as they can track a company's performance in its report, look at what experts are forecasting for next year, and see if there has been any change to expectations for the business. So we collected the latest post-earnings statutory consensus estimates to see what could be in store for next year. See our latest analysis for Viant Technology Following the latest results, Viant Technology's six analysts are now forecasting revenues of US$334.7m in 2025. This would be a meaningful 16% improvement in revenue compared to the last 12 months. Statutory earnings per share are predicted to ascend 13% to US$0.16. In the lead-up to this report, the analysts had been modelling revenues of US$321.1m and earnings per share (EPS) of US$0.30 in 2025. So it's pretty clear the analysts have mixed opinions on Viant Technology after the latest results; even though they upped their revenue numbers, it came at the cost of a large cut to per-share earnings expectations. There's been no major changes to the price target of US$23.86, suggesting that the impact of higher forecast revenue and lower earnings won't result in a meaningful change to the business' valuation. Fixating on a single price target can be unwise though, since the consensus target is effectively the average of analyst price targets. As a result, some investors like to look at the range of estimates to see if there are any diverging opinions on the company's valuation. The most optimistic Viant Technology analyst has a price target of US$27.00 per share, while the most pessimistic values it at US$21.00. Still, with such a tight range of estimates, it suggeststhe analysts have a pretty good idea of what they think the company is worth. Another way we can view these estimates is in the context of the bigger picture, such as how the forecasts stack up against past performance, and whether forecasts are more or less bullish relative to other companies in the industry. The analysts are definitely expecting Viant Technology's growth to accelerate, with the forecast 16% annualised growth to the end of 2025 ranking favourably alongside historical growth of 9.5% per annum over the past five years. Compare this with other companies in the same industry, which are forecast to grow their revenue 12% annually. Factoring in the forecast acceleration in revenue, it's pretty clear that Viant Technology is expected to grow much faster than its industry. The biggest concern is that the analysts reduced their earnings per share estimates, suggesting business headwinds could lay ahead for Viant Technology. Happily, they also upgraded their revenue estimates, and are forecasting them to grow faster than the wider industry. The consensus price target held steady at US$23.86, with the latest estimates not enough to have an impact on their price targets. Keeping that in mind, we still think that the longer term trajectory of the business is much more important for investors to consider.
