Tamworth's programme of events from arts collective unveiled
A giant dragon made from recycled materials is among the 2025 events in Tamworth unveiled by an arts dragon, featuring 1,100 scales hand-painted by residents, will be paraded through Tamworth, Staffordshire, on 19 July to mark the 1,100th anniversary of Athelstan, the first king of is among events organised by arts collective New Urban Era Community Interest Company (NUE CIC). Others include the free Kids Create Mini Arts Festival on 25 July, and two-day Art of Tamworth Festival in August, that includes live music performances. Vic Brown, founder of NUE, said this year was set to be its "most ambitious yet" and embodied "our commitment to providing free accessible arts experiences for everyone in Tamworth". "Our focus remains firmly on delivering high quality, impactful events that showcase the incredible talent within our community and beyond," he said. "We invite everyone to join us and experience the vibrant cultural landscape of Tamworth."He said NUE CIC will provide a "pivotal role" in the Athelstan 1100 Festival, which includes events across the country. Organisers also confirmed that the Kids Mini Arts Festival at Ankerside Shopping Centre and Tamworth Castle grounds will feature workshops and introductory sessions to various art forms, including dance, beatboxing, drumming and recycled arts. Mr Brown said the festival involves the creation of new murals, while the wider project would see bus shelters be transformed into public artworks. He added the extensive programme was made possible by funding from Arts Council England, borough council, Staffordshire Space Scheme, Support Staffordshire and local businesses. Beatbox artists picked for Tamworth grand final
A panel of judges have chosen finalists from around the world for a beatbox and loopstation competition in Staffordshire. The Nue Beatbox grand final is set to take place at the Tamworth Assembly Rooms on Saturday 2 August. Nue (New Urban Era) said it's "fiercely competitive wildcard round" attracted 93 solo beatbox entries and 24 loopstation entries from a total of 33 countries. The arts collective, which organises events and workshops in the town, said the final includes showcase performances from the judges, who include loopstation champion Saro. Nue said such performances would add to the "electrifying atmosphere". Vic Brown, founder of Nue, said the final "promises to be an unparalleled celebration of beatbox artistry, featuring intense beatbox battles and exclusive performances from the very best in the world". Eight loopstation artists, including Ruse from Japan who was the wildcard competition winner, and Lennard from Germany, will compete for the crown. In the solo beatbox category, the 16 finalists include PatBox from France and UK beatboxer Epos, who is the the current Nue Beatbox champion. Organisers begun the competition in 2021 and said by 2023 it was "firmly on the international stage" when it received 60 wildcard entries from 16 countries.
