American rider Brandon McNulty wins Tour de Pologne after final stage time trial

American cyclist Brandon McNulty has won the Tour de Pologne after winning Sunday's climactic time trial. The 27-year-old had been second entering the stage, seven seconds behind INEOS Grenadiers' Victor Langelotti, who was bidding to become the first Monegasque to win a WorldTour race. Stage seven was a 12.5km time trial around the Wieliczka salt mine in southern Poland, featuring a two kilometre climb at the start of the course. Advertisement McNulty, the former U.S. time trial champion, set a time of 14.31 to win the stage, with Langelotti 46 seconds slower. Italian climber Antonio Tiberi climbed the standings to finish second overall, having finished fourth on the stage. This is the first WorldTour stage race victory of McNulty's career. He has previously been open about his own general classification ambitions, finishing ninth in this year's Giro d'Italia in support of Isaac del Toro. Speaking after his victory, McNulty paid tribute to teammate Filippo Baroncini, who was placed into an induced coma after crashing on stage two. According to team boss Mauro Gianetti, Baroncini's 'life is not in danger', with the coma induced to hasten his recovery. 'I didn't have the perfect start to the season, I had some illness and this is my first win of the year,' McNulty said. 'Today was nice to get a win for Baroncini, who crashed out earlier in the week. We've had him in our minds since he left and we wish for him the best in his recovery.' () Spot the pattern.
