Kayaking and alpaca walking among free East Riding summer fun
Alpaca walking and kayaking are among the activities on offer for children receiving benefits-related free school meals across East Yorkshire this sessions during the summer holidays include dance workshops, crafts, a sports camp, outdoor adventure sessions and farm programme also includes junior lifeguard training, water polo, graffiti workshops, trampolining and sessions at hi-ropes adventure park The Edge in free activities are part of East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Holiday Activities and Food programme, which is funded by the Department for Education. Although the programme is primarily aimed at those aged between five and 16 in receipt of benefits-related free school meals, some places are available for children and young people who have an education, health and care plan, regardless of their free school meals Aitken, the council's cabinet member for children, families and education, said: "As any parent of school-age children knows, keeping the kids entertained throughout school holidays is not easy."This is a fabulous programme of free events for our children and young people to keep them entertained, active and having fun."The majority of sessions are four hours long and are available to book online. East Yorkshire council backs breastfeeding in public campaign
A council is backing an initiative to "normalise and celebrate" breastfeeding in centres run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, along with NHS public health nurses, are hosting a series of events to coincide with Breastfeeding in Public Day, which takes place on campaign was established to recognise the importance of breastfeeding to infant health and to give mothers the confidence to breastfeed their babies in public Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families and education, said: "In East Riding, we want all new parents to feel welcome to feed their babies, whether this is in council-run venues, health buildings, or in public spaces." She said the Breastfeeding in Public Day provided the "opportunity to celebrate and normalise breastfeeding".
