NU's Vidarbha Water Summit to focus on regional challenges, innovations
Nagpur: The Vidarbha Water Summit, organised by Nagpur University's National Service Scheme (NSS) and Janakalyankari Samiti, will be held from June 7 to 9 at Vanamati Auditorium in Dharampeth.
The summit will be inaugurated by CM Devendra Fadnavis.
Interim Vice Chancellor Dr Madhavi Khode Chavre shared event details at a press conference, noting the summit's focus on regional water issues, solutions, and modern technologies. Dignitaries at the inauguration will include Prashant Bokare, Vice Chancellor of Gondwana University, and Rajesh Sonatakke, Executive Director of Irrigation Development Corporation.
The summit's first day will feature a symposium on drinking water challenges in Vidarbha, with S Venkata Mohan, director of National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (Neeri), presiding over. The second day will host discussions under Agricultural Water Council, addressing topics such as current usage of agricultural water, salinity issues, advances in drip irrigation, and the role of water users' associations.

On June 9, an Industrial Water Council will focus on water management, purification, and industrial applications, alongside employment generation in the water sector. Vice-chancellor Laxminarayan Innovation Technological University Dr Atul Vaidya will preside over the day's events. The closing ceremony will include prize distribution for competitions, with Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Padmashree awardee Chetram Pawar, and VC Khode Chavre attending as chief guests.
Chavare said, "This summit aims to bridge knowledge gaps and promote region-specific water solutions." She was joined at the press briefing by registrar Raju Hiwase, management council members -- Samay Bansod and Waman Turke, Sumanth Puntambekar, Milind Joshi, Rajendra Deshkar, Shubhangi Nakshine Umbarakar, Raj Madankar, and Sopandev Pise.
The summit is expected to draw wide participation from experts, farmers, and industry representatives to tackle water-related challenges in Vidarbha.
