Two more imported French cheeses recalled over possible listeria contamination: Singapore Food Agency

The agency said on Thursday (Aug 14) it has added Vieux Porche Camembert De Caractere (250g) and Royal Faucon Camembert De Caractere (250g) to the list of cheese products to be recalled. This follows its statement on Aug 13 ordering the recall of Vieux Porche Buchette (200g), which the French authorities had ordered the recall of in France as it may contain the food-borne bacterium listeria. The importers of the two soft cheeses – Classic Fine Foods and Culina – have been directed to recall the products and the process is ongoing, said SFA. The affected batches of products for Vieux Porche Camembert De Caractere (250g) have a best-before date leading up to and including Aug 30, 2025. Meanwhile, the affected batches of Royal Faucon Camembert De Caractere (250g) have a best-before date leading up to Aug 17. Consuming the listeria bacterium can cause food poisoning, and symptoms include fever, muscle ache, nausea and diarrhoea. It can be fatal to pregnant women, infants and those who are immunocompromised, SFA said. It added that food products at a higher risk of being contaminated include unpasteurised or raw dairy products, soft cheeses – including those ripened by mould – refrigerated meat spread, smoked fish and ready-to-eat deli meats and sausages. Said SFA: 'Consumers who have purchased the implicated products are advised not to consume it. Those who have consumed the implicated products and have concerns about their health should seek medical advice.' - The Straits Times/ANN

French cheese pulled from shelves in Singapore amid Listeria fears
SINGAPORE: A French soft cheese is being recalled in Singapore due to a possible risk of listeria contamination, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said on Wednesday. The Vieux Porche Buchette brand cheese, which was imported from France, has also been withdrawn from shelves in its country of origin. "Consumers who have bought the affected product should not eat it," the SFA said in a statement. Listeria monocytogenes is a foodborne bacterium that can cause food poisoning, with symptoms including fever, muscle aches, nausea and diarrhoea. The SFA said the infection can be fatal for pregnant women, infants and people with weakened immune systems.

In a statement on Aug 13, SFA said that the French authorities had ordered the recall of the soft cheese in France as it may contain the food-borne bacteria, listeria. 'As the affected product was imported into Singapore, SFA has directed the importers, Classic Fine Foods Pte Ltd and Indoguna (Singapore) Pte Ltd, to recall the implicated products,' said SFA, adding that the recall was ongoing. The affected batches bear a best-before date leading up to and including Aug 20, 2025. Consuming the listeria bacterium can cause food poisoning. Signs of infection may include fever, muscle ache, nausea and diarrhoea. SFA added that listeria can be fatal to pregnant women, infants and the immunocompromised. Food that are at higher risk of being contaminated with listeria include unpasteurised or raw dairy products, soft cheese including those ripened by mould, refrigerated meat spread, smoked fish and ready-to-eat deli meats and sausages.
