Prospective bride from U.K. lures Bengaluru trader, makes away with ₹38 lakh
The East Division Cyber Crime Police have registered a case against a Non Resident Indian (NRI) woman from the United Kingdom (UK) and her family members, who allegedly lured a 25-year-old city based pre-owned bikes showroom owner into making spurious investments and made away with ₹38.8 lakh. Based on the complaint filed by Vignesh Kumar, the police registered an FIR charging the accused, identified as Lakshmi Priya, and her family members under various Sections of IT Act, 2000 and for cheating. The victim in his complaint said that while searching for a bride on a popular matrimonial website, he came across the profile of Lakshmi Priya in March this year and both texted each other. After formal introduction through voice calls, she introduced her family members and uncle who was running an investment firm in the U.K. During Rama Navami, Vignesh Kumar and family made a video call to chat with Priya to confirm the proposal. While discussing about the marriage, she reportedly lured him to invest in her uncle's firm to get good returns for the marriage. Vignesh made a initial investment online for ₹65,000 through a mobile app, which was showing good profits. He reportedly even withdrew ₹5,000 to check, and he successfully received the money in his bank account. But little did he realise that it was a bait and following her advise he invested an additional ₹25 lakh. The investment was showing in the mobile app and after trading some shares, the profit reached to a whopping ₹1.4 crore. The cheating started when Vignesh was informed that his trade link was being closed for taxation purpose and he was told to pay tax of ₹17,56,600 as 15% tax along with an additional 3% service fee of ₹3.5 lakh with a total of ₹21.07 lakh. Vignesh spoke to Priya seeking help where she assured to share some of her savings and also talk to her uncle to reduce 2% in the total amount of tax. Convinced by this and hoping to get the profit, Vignesh borrowed money and paid online. Though the accused said that they would share the tax payment receipt in three days, they went incommunicado. After repeated attempts to reach them failed, he realised that he had been cheated of ₹38,85,000 and approached the police seeking help to get back his money.

Suburban AC train scrapes platforms, staff ‘hammer' back rakes
Chennai: Southern Railway 's much-hyped air-conditioned suburban train, introduced with fanfare as a symbol of modern urban transit, came to an embarrassing halt on Sunday after its rakes began scraping against station platforms along the Tambaram–Beach line. The incident, caught on video by commuters, exposed not only a technical flaw in design but also the railways' crude on-ground response. Videos showed railway workers crouching below the train with no power tools, using handheld hammers to strike the bottom edge of compartments that were grinding against platform edges. In each instance, after hammering a compartment's lower panel, workers used their mobile phones to record whether the rake could pass smoothly — essentially disfiguring the train. There was no official explanation from the Southern Railway on why it deployed a trainset that physically couldn't fit within its platforms. However, railway sources, on condition of anonymity, said that the issue could stem from marginal miscalculations in rake width or floor height that fail to account for older platform curvature or protrusions—especially at stations with legacy alignments. "If railways couldn't even test rake-platform compatibility before launch, what does that say about safety," asked Madipakkam resident Vignesh. After more than 600 negative feedback submissions, Southern Railway revised timings from May 2—advancing Train No. 49004's arrival and altering evening services. The rake was launched on April 19, after criticism of keeping the rake idle for tests and waiting for a VIP schedule to inaugurate it.

Activist seek action after viral video shows horse forced to talk on burning embers
An animal rights activist has urged the district police to take action against those involved in harming a horse during a recent village festival at Namagiripettai. In his complaint to the Superintendent of Police, M. Vignesh stated that a widely circulated Instagram reel shows a horse being forced to walk over burning embers, visibly distressed and in pain. The video, posted by a user on May 8, 2025, has sparked public outrage and concern among animal welfare advocates. 'This is a clear violation of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita,' he said. Vignesh added that despite the seriousness of the complaint and the submission of digital evidence, no First Information Report (FIR) has been registered so far. He urged the police to take immediate action to identify and prosecute the perpetrator, and to seize the horse to prevent further harm.

30 Tips To Help You Look A Bit More Put-Together
First up is wake up. Our least favorite task of the day, but let me put you onto my new fave life hack: The Hatch Restore 3. (Mine is in the new rosey color!) Yes, yes, you've seen them around but if you haven't woken up with it, you don't know what you're missing: Gentle light, ambient soundscapes you get to handpick yourself... Trust me. This will be your new fave roommate because you'll actually enjoy waking up which I think has decreased my under-eye dark circles by roughly 700%. (Because. girl math.) Promising review: "After struggling with both falling asleep and waking up for years, my wife and I decided to invest in the Hatch Restore 3. After using it for a couple of weeks now, I can confidently say this device has transformed our sleep routine positively and we wish we would have started using this a lot sooner instead of simply using our iPhones as alarm clocks. Our favorite features are the 'Light Rain' and 'Ocean Waves' settings, which we both love and help us quickly fall asleep. We love the look as it features a sleek, modern design that perfectly matches our bedroom decor. The quality matches the price point as it feels and looks like a premium, high-quality device and has great sound quality. It's very user-friendly and simple to use without the need for a phone, allowing us to manage our sleep routine directly from the device and reduce our screen time right before bed. Another great feature is the sunrise alarm which gradually brightens our room, mimicking a natural sunrise and allowing us to feel more refreshed and less startled." —Ali PGet it from Amazon for $169.99 (available in three colors). Promising review: "I was looking for a dry shampoo that would be easy to use on the go for a trip I was taking. I had no issues taking this through TSA, and it was so easy to use on the go. You literally just pat the poof on your scalp and then rub the powder in. I do have black hair, so dry shampoo is usually very visible in my hair, but I didn't have any harder time than usual rubbing this powder in. It did a really good job of soaking up all the oil and giving my hair volume. I'm not a fan of the price for the amount that you get, but it is lasting longer than I thought it would.
