New Flight Simulator at Vigo County History Center
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Vigo County History Center announced the opening of a new exhibit featuring the history of local aviation. 'Flight Over Vigo Skies' is a flight simulation over Terre Haute. The simulation will offer different sites to see like Country Club of Terre Haute, the Action Track, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, and so much more. The exhibit also has memorabilia of the airport on display. University Commencements happening across the Wabash Valley Executive Director of the History Center Marla Flowers said it's a great experience. 'What I wanted was an attraction within the attraction. And I really hope that this is incentive for people to come check out and just see a really unique view of the county that they've never seen before,' she said. Vigo Co. History Center holds Strategies of the Suffragists program
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Saturday afternoon, the Vigo County History Center hosted the program Strategies of the Suffragists. This program was a deep dive into the ways that women fought for women's right to vote. The history center's curator Suzy Dunning says since March is Women's History Month, they want to share the stories about the women who changed history. She hopes that programs like these inspire the women of today to be just as ambitious. Ivy Tech Terre Haute hosts Middle School Day 'It is important to tell their stories so that it inspires and encourages people today to connect with their past but also to their way with their own path,' said Dunning. Vigo County History Center host part one of Black History from A to Z: Stories Told Through Artifacts
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Saturday afternoon, the Vigo County History Center hosted part one of the program Black History from A to Z: Stories Told Through Artifacts. This was presented by local historian Dr. Crystal Reynolds, the history center's curator Suzy Dunning, along with many other guest speakers. The program highlighted the importance and impact of how African Americans were depicted throughout history by numerous artifacts. Dunning said that they are never going to stop teaching and celebrating black history. THFD prioritizing mental health 'We are going to keep on celebrating black history here at the history center and have those stories to tell that help inspire and enrich people's lives and just share that story of our black history here,' said Dunning. Vigo Co. History Center preparing for Black History Month events
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — In honor of Black History Month, the Vigo County History Center will have an exhibit about African American history in the area. 'We look at this as an educational exhibit that can help teach about this sensitive topic that is something that is relative and still important in our communities today,' said its curator Suzy Dunning. Dunning said this year's exhibit will display the history of African American stereotypes and characterizations, the impact that has had, and the efforts to combat it. 'It is something that has led to racism and there have been a lot of efforts to reject that stereotypical imagery in black communities throughout history, and we want to teach on that as well,' said Dunning. The history center will also host a program called Black History from A to Z: Local Stories Told Through Artifacts, which will be taught by local historian Dr. Crystal Reynolds along with a number of guest speakers. Reynolds said that this will contain one-of-a-kind artifacts that will open people's eyes to the black history in this area. Prairie Creek Park, once again, producing maple syrup 'This program is going to expose people to some of the amazing objects and artifacts in the collection at the historical museum,' said Reynolds. 'In particular, these objects deal with the African American experience. This museum houses amazing objects that tells the story of African Americans as well as great African American leaders.' Reynolds said that she can't thank the history center enough for allowing this history to continue to be told. 'This museum has been the keeper of these objects to preserve these amazing stories, amazing events, and amazing history,' said Reynolds. 'We want everyone to come out and see this great history.'
