Special Pocso court building in Pune to be ready by Nov-end: PMRDA
Pune: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is constructing a dedicated four-storey Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court complex within the district and sessions court premises that is expected to be completed by Nov-end.
"The Rs 9.71-crore project, part of a land exchange deal linked to the Maan–Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line 3, is now scheduled for completion by Nov. The earlier deadline was July,'' a PMRDA official said on Monday.
Under a 2019 concession agreement with Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd, the court provided land for the Metro station and staircase access. In return, PMRDA agreed to construct a ground-plus-four building for Pocso cases and beautify the court premises.

"Work on the project began last Jan. It is being executed by Tata Projects Ltd, PMRDA's concessionaire, with both administrative and technical sanctions in place. The structure will exclusively house Pocso courts and facilities, enabling time-bound hearings," the official said.
State govt recently set up 27 fast-track special courts, including four in Pune district, under the National Mission for Safety of Women.
Pune district has over 6,000 pending Pocso-related cases. Lawyers said the dedicated building would help streamline proceedings. "The dedicated building will help expedite case hearings. Pune will have four such courts, all of them will be housed in this building,'' another PMRDA official said.
Activist Vihar Durve said there was a huge pendency of cases under Pocso Act, which mandated case completion within a year.
"Despite the mandate, cases have been pending for several years,'' he added.
