How to Train Your Dragon 2025: Director Dean DeBlois built a Viking village set in Northern Ireland for the live-action film
For the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon, writer and director Dean DeBlois created more than just a story. In an interview with King5 Evening, the director revealed. He built a Viking-inspired village on chilly sets in Northern Ireland. DeBlois travelled to Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and Scotland to find inspiration. He then combined the best parts of these places to make a village that feels real and inviting. This helps viewers feel like they are stepping into the world of the characters. DeBlois said, 'We flew around Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Scotland,'. He further added, 'You gather all of these amazing locations, and you can meld them anyway you want, but the goal is to create a place that people want to be to spend time with the characters.' Creating an authentic Viking world Enjoy a legendary movie experience this Father's Day weekend 🐉 Get tickets for #HowToTrainYourDragon, only in theaters! The actors enjoyed working on the real sets. Mason Thames, a young actor from Texas playing Hiccup, found out over Zoom that this role would change his life. Nico Parker, who plays Astrid, said the village not only looked real but even smelled real. The crew added the scent of raw fish from a fish hut to make the atmosphere feel true to Viking life. Bringing the dragon Toothless to life took a special team of puppeteers. They studied animals like salamanders and panthers to give Toothless smooth and natural movements. Their goal was to make him seem fierce while ensuring that he also came across like a playful pet that the audience could connect with. By building a real Viking village and paying attention to small details, DeBlois made this live-action remake stand out. It creates a world that feels alive and pulls viewers closer to the story.

LEGO Toothless from ‘How to Train Your Dragon' is finally here — I've never pre-ordered something so fast
I could spend an entire day explaining why 'How to Train Your Dragon' is my favorite animated movie franchise: a coming-of-age story celebrating emotional growth; soaring scores that complements the Viking-inspired villages; and the progression of dragons from fearsome beasts to loyal allies. But if I only were allowed one word to capture my love of 'How to Train Your Dragon?' That's easy: Toothless, a.k.a. the most expressive, endearing dragon to ever fly across the silver screen. And thanks to LEGO, I can now enjoy building my very own 784-piece Night Fury at home. Available starting July 1, this 784-piece LEGO Icons set brings Toothless the Night Fury to life. Complete with true-to-movie details and even a little snack, this is a must-have for fans of the franchise. This latest installment to LEGO's Ideas (the collection of fan-designed and -submitted sets) has been revealed just in time for the live-action 'How to Train Your Dragon,' which hits theaters on June 13 as one of this summer's biggest movies. Although the Toothless (10375) set doesn't launch officially until July 1, you can pre-order it now for $69.99 at Between the big eyes, printed scales and a mischievous expression, this version of Toothless is totally precious. Hiccup's pal stands at 16 cm (6.5 inches) tall, which makes him small enough to display easily, but movable joints elevate the final product. He even comes with a fish (for snacking, obviously) and a little blue plasma-blast that fits in his mouth like he's ready to defend Berk at any moment. LEGO also nailed the details with his signature red tail fin that Hiccup repaired after their first crash landing. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Speaking of Hiccup, I was a little disappointed that LEGO won't include a Hiccup minifigure, especially considering this version of Toothless is outfitted with a saddle. I found this custom one on Ebay, but I also wouldn't be surprised if a future 'How to Train Your Dragon' set provides more of the film's characters in minifigure form. Either way, Toothless in LEGO form feels like a long-overdue tribute to one of animation's greatest companions. And if you're anything like me (someone who tears up at the end of 'The Hidden World' every time, no matter how many times I've seen it) this is a set you'll want on your shelf.

Highland Park mural on Kirkwall shop may soon disappear as distillers plan new paint job
The large mural on the side of Kirkwall's Highland Park shop may be about to disappear. The whisky distillery has submitted plans to Orkney Islands Council which would see its Albert Street shop undergo a change in colour scheme. Much of the shop's exterior would be changed from the current blue-grey colour to 'Wimborne white.' This would have the shop align with the re-branding the company unveiled last October. Highland Park says the new look was created to allow it to celebrate its Orkney roots more. The shop's large Viking-inspired mural on the shop's gable end became an eye-catching addition to the high street when the company took over the premises in 2019. However, under the new plans, it would be replaced by a more basic Highland Park logo with 'single malt scotch whisky' underneath. The front-facing signage would also be repainted, maintaining dark colouring. New lettering would be fitted as well. While this may signal the disappearance of one mural from Kirkwall's high street, planning permission has just been given for another. The soon-to-open Garden Square development will be adding one designed by artist Lauren Morsley. Highland Park's shop serves as a town centre hub for visiting tourists while the distillery is located on the outskirts of Kirkwall. The shop has been particularly useful for the company over the past year while the distillery has been closed to tours and tastings. This was while work was done to make the distillery more environmentally friendly. It is estimated the project will cut the carbon emissions of the site by about 20%. Highland Park's planning application for its new mural on its Kirkwall shop is now with Orkney Island's Council's planning department, awaiting a decision.

Flames Rise as Ship Burned at Viking-Inspired Fire Festival
The annual Viking-inspired fire festival of Up Helly Aa, described by organizers as 'a northern Mardi Gras,' was held in the town of Lerwick in Scotland's Shetland Islands on Tuesday, January 28. The festival involves a torchlit procession led by a 'Guizer Jarl,' or Chief Viking, and a 'Jarl Squad,' which lights a replica longship by throwing torches into it. The present form of Up Helly Aa dates back around 140 years, but the traditions of the festival, including the procession and galley-burning, go back '12 centuries or more' and are linked to ancient Norse rituals marking the sun's return after winter, according to Promote Shetland, which helps organize the event. Before the 19th century, the event was 'often riotous' and law enforcement would be summoned 'to curb trigger-happy drunks firing guns in the air' or to stop people 'dragging a blazing tar barrel through the streets,' they said.
