Congress revokes suspension of Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary who opposed Charanjit Singh Channi in Lok Sabha polls

Jalandhar: Congress revoked the suspension of Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary on Monday — a move that appears to be a sign of growing bitterness between Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, former CM Charanjit Singh and others. Immediately after the revocation of his suspension, Vikramjit participated in a party function at Ludhiana's Dakha, presided over by Warring. The MLA was placed under suspension for opposing Charanjit Singh Channi during his parliamentary election from Jalandhar. In the past few days, Channi and a few other leaders had re-inducted two Ludhiana-based leaders into the party against Warring's wishes. On Monday, the latter appeared to be paying back in the same coin by getting a known Channi-baiter back into the party fold. Vikramjit's father, Santokh Singh Chaudhary, was the Jalandhar MP when he died during Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra in 2023. A byelection followed and Vikramjit's mother, Karamjit Kaur, was given the party ticket, but she lost to Sushil Rinku, who was then in AAP. In 2024, Channi was given the Congress ticket, and Karamjit Kaur joined BJP, while Vikramjit continued opposing Channi. Differences between Ashu and Warring are an open secret in the Congress. On Sunday, the same leaders re-inducted Kamaljit Singh Karwal, a friend-turned-foe of Ludhiana-based Bains brothers Simarjit Singh and Balwinder Singh. The Bains brothers had joined the Congress during Warring's Lok Sabha election campaign from Ludhiana and are considered to be his loyalists. Soon after Karwal's joining, Simarjit issued statements on Sunday evening, questioning his re-induction into the party and making it amply clear that Warring was not taken in the loop. This brought out the bitterness within Punjab Congress. Announcing the revocation of Vikramjit Singh's suspension on Monday morning, Warring wrote on his X account: "We in the @INCPunjab are glad that our colleague and the Phillaur MLA @VikramjitMLA is back with us. He is a dyed-in-wool third-generation Congressman. His homecoming will definitely strengthen the party." In the same post, Warring attached a photo which had him with and other Congress leaders — Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Punjab Congress general secretary Capt Sandeep Sandhu, and former MLA Gurkirat Kotli. Vikramjit said Warring and leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa revoked his suspension. A different model appears to be at work during the factional fight of Punjab Congress leaders this time. Unlike the earlier modus operandi of targeting each other's loyalists, they are inducting each other's baiters into the party fold now.

3 jawans posted in J&K held for drug peddling in Punjab, 255 gm heroin recovered

The Ludhiana Rural Police has arrested three Army jawans posted in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, for allegedly procuring heroin from the Line of Control (LoC) and selling in Punjab, officers said. Ludhiana (Rural) Superintendent of Police Ankur Gupta said they will hold a press conference and share further details soon. The accused have been identified as 25-year-old Vikramjit Singh from Ludhiana's Bhanour village, Jaswinder Singh Jassi from Hoshiarpur district's Chingar Kalan village, and Baljinder Singh Balli from Faridkot district's Jaiton, police said. A senior investigating officer said two days ago, Vikramjit was intercepted at a police checkpoint in Pamaal village, Ludhiana, and 255 gm of heroin were recovered from his possession. During questioning, Vikramjit revealed he was posted in Srinagar as a sepoy. 'Vikramjit, Jassi, and Balli procured heroin, smuggled from Pakistan, from the LoC and sold in Punjab,' the officer said, on the condition of anonymity. Based on information provided by Vikramjit, a Ludhiana Police team went to J&K and arrested Jassi and Balli — both posted as havildars in the Army — from Srinagar. The officer further said: 'Vikramjit, who has been posted in Srinagar for over a year, used to take leave and visit his hometown often for this work… The three jawans belong to middle-class families, and had been doing this for easy money.' An FIR has been registered against the trio under sections 21 and 25 of the NDPS Act at the Jodhan police station, and more arrests are expected in the case, the officer said.

Soul of Japan on a Plate

From the appetizers, we sampled Crispy Avocado and Water Chestnuts with Snow Peas, which brought a refreshing crunch and balance. From the grill, the Lamb Loin with Beansprouts was perfectly cooked and seasoned. For mains, the Chicken Teriyaki and Chicken Teppanyaki Fried Rice delivered on comfort and satisfaction. The dessert highlight? A Peanut Butter Tart that was not only indulgent but also healthy. The chef explained that the tart's base was made from buckwheat — making it gluten-free, fibre-rich, and full of essential minerals. The experience was rounded off with a drinks menu that included standouts like the Chili Negroni — a bold twist on the classic, where chilli-infused gin blended with Aperol and house-made aromatic vermouth for a perfectly balanced, spicy sip. Reflecting on his culinary journey, Chef Vikramjit shared, 'It's been humbling — from peeling vegetables to leading kitchens and being recognised by legends like Marco Pierre White and Sanjeev Kapoor. The journey has always been about learning, evolving, and staying honest to the craft.' He also reminisced about his most cherished food memory, 'Eating freshly steamed momos with my family in the hills as a child. That memory still defines my understanding of comfort, warmth, and flavour.' When asked if he plans to open a restaurant in Hyderabad, he smiled and said, 'Hyatt as a brand is deeply committed to crafting unique culinary experiences across its properties, and it's exciting to see Park Hyatt Hyderabad pushing boundaries with Asian cuisine. While I'm currently focused on building something meaningful with Hyatt India, collaborations like this pop-up allow us to bring a taste of that journey to new cities.' For Chef Vikramjit, the kitchen is his sanctuary, 'What I love most is creating a melting pot. When you cook around the world and explore cultures, you notice beautiful similarities. Creating a natural intersection of different culinary traditions, while staying true to each, is where I find joy. It's where everything comes together — flavour, colour, emotion, and story. It's my meditative moment before the guest takes the first bite.' And that's exactly what the experience was — an elevated, multi-sensory journey where every dish told a story, blending authenticity with bold creativity.
