How Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, NCR voted for senators in Eleksyon 2025

For Malacañang, the Marcos administration's senatorial slate got six of the 12 seats up for grabs in the recently concluded midterm elections. According to Joseph Morong's report on "24 Oras," the Palace included on its list Camille Villar, who was also endorsed by Vice President Sara Duterte. The Duterte camp, on the other hand, has four of its candidates in the Magic 12. It would be five if Villar were considered part of the group. A third group – that of former senators Francis Pangilinan and Benigno "Bam" Aquino IV – were also in the winners' circle. Geographically, how did the country's island groups and regions vote for their senators? In Mindanao, the Duterte camp's candidates including Villar won all 12 seats. No senator from other groups won in the southern Philippines. In Luzon, where more than half of the country's electorate comes from, ten of the winning senators were in the area's Top 12. Ben Tulfo and Benhur Abalos, who placed in the winning circle in Luzon, didn't win. In the Visayas, seven of the administration candidates were in the Top 12, but senators Christopher "Bong" Go and Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa topped the race. They were two of three in the Duterte slate who made it to the winners' circle in the Visayas. In Bicol, the region where former Vice President Leni Robredo comes from, only Go from the Duterte camp made it to the Top 12. The rest of the region's top-ranking senators came from opposition-aligned parties. In the National Capital Region (NCR), five of the top 12 candidates were endorsed by former President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., while three others were from the Duterte camp. There was the unexpected entry of two independent candidates—Heidi Mendoza and Bonifacio Bosita—in Metro Manila's Top 12, despite not having party support. Both candidates also performed well in CALABARZON or Southern Tagalog, a region with a huge voter base in the country. –NB, GMA Integrated News For more Eleksyon 2025 related content and updates, visit GMA News Online's Eleksyon 2025 microsite.

Cynthia Villar concedes defeat as councilor Santos wins Las Piñas congressional race

Senator Cynthia Villar has conceded defeat to Las Piñas City Councilor Mark Anthony Santos in the congressional race for the city's lone district. This marks a major political shift, as the Villar family has held key positions in Las Piñas for many years. According to partial, unofficial results from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as of May 14, 2025, at 11:30 AM, Santos led by nearly 30,000 votes, securing 108,206 votes. Villar, who ran under the Nacionalista Party (NP), received 78,526 votes. In a statement, Villar expressed gratitude to her supporters, saying, 'Maraming salamat, Las Piñas! Villar previously held the position from 2001 to 2010 before winning a Senate seat in 2013. She was re-elected to the Senate for a second term in 2019. Comelec junks vote-buying complaint vs Camille Villar

The Commission on Elections' Committee on Kontra Bigay has dismissed the vote-buying allegations against Senatorial candidate and Las Piñas Representative Camille Villar. In a letter, committee vice-chairperson Teofisto Elnas Jr. said Villar's explanation regarding the incident was satisfactory. 'Upon evaluation of the evidence gathered, the undersigned deems the same insufficient to proceed to the filing of a complaint for election offense and/or a petition for disqualification,' Elnas wrote. Villar welcomed the decision in a press statement, saying, 'I thank the Comelec for the timely issuance of this resolution, junking the complaint of vote-buying.' 'I assure everyone that I am running on a clean platform, pursuing only my advocacies that aim to make lives better for the Filipinos,' she added. The committee earlier issued a show cause order directing Villar to respond to an anonymous complaint, which cited a Facebook video posted on February 16. The video showed Villar on stage at an event where local candidates allegedly raffled off cash prizes. Villar clarified that the event took place on February 9, before the official campaign period started on February 11. She also said she was merely a guest at the gathering.
