Devotees flock to Mahalakshmi temples for Varalakshmi vratam
Mahalakshmi temples across Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts wore a festive look as devotees gathered to offer special prayers to the presiding deities on the occasion of Varalakshmi Vratam celebrated on the third Friday of the auspicious month of Sravanam.
At the Iswharya Vekateswara Sametha Astalakshmi temple of Ayyannapeta, in Vizianagaram priests performed Abhisekham and Kumkum puja. The Sri Kanyakaparameswari temple witnessed a heavy rush of devotees. Temple trustee Narayanam Srinivas oversaw the arrangements for special prayers.
In the Lord Jagannath Swamy temple, the Goddess Mahalakshmi was adorned with flowers. Jagannath Seva Samithi member Kapuganti Prakash said that the Goddess Mahalakshmi shrine within the temple premises is believed to be constructed 800 years ago, making it the oldest temple in the region.
Vinayaka Panchayatana Alayam temple trustee P. Jaganmohana Rao made arrangements for Kumkum puja at the Astalakshmi temple located within the premises of PN Colony, Srikakulam district. Devotees thronged the temple in the early hours to offer prayers. It is the first Astalakshmi temple constructed a decade ago.
