Marvel fans were ecstatic when Charlie Cox returned as the titular hero in the Disney+ series "Daredevil: Born Again."
Not only did it bring back Vincent D'Onofrio's iconic performance as Wilson Fisk, but it also meant that the Netflix Marvel series were officially being ingrained into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This was later confirmed when it was revealed that Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) would be joining Daredevil in Season 2.

Now, another member of The Defenders will be returning to the MCU. However, it won't be the version fans have come to know from the divisive Netflix series.

According to Kambole Campbell of Variety, Iron Fist will be returning to the MCU in the upcoming "Eyes of Wakanda" animated series.
"There will be an Iron Fist in here, and not the Iron Fist you expect," director Todd Harris said.

That being said, there are plenty of things about "Eyes of Wakanda" that seem to defy expectations.

A spin-off of the "Black Panther" films, "Eyes of Wakanda" will be a four-episode series that will be "hop-scotching through centuries." This means that each episode will be a stand-alone story in the country's history.
For example, the first episode takes place in 1260 BC and follows "a disgraced former Dora Milaje named Noni" as she pursues a former Wakandan guard who became a pirate and sails under the moniker "The Lion."
Needless to say, it seems that everything in this series will be unlike anything Marvel fans have seen before from the MCU. And maybe that's a good thing.

While most of the Netflix Marvel series were popular, "Iron Fist" proved to be the most critically maligned, with Season 1 receiving a shockingly low 20 percent critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes.
While Season 2 improved, it still only received a 55 percent critics' score. However, the audience scores were better, with Season 1 receiving 71 percent and Season 2 receiving 61 percent.
Given that "Eyes of Wakanda" takes place across history, it will be interesting to see what time period Iron Fist will enter the series.
