Action against Shine will be decided after ICC report, says film chamber
The Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has stated that a decision on the action to be taken against actor Shine Tom Chacko over the allegations of drug abuse and misbehaviour raised against him by actor Vincy Aloshious will be taken after receiving the report of the internal complaints committee (ICC) of the movie Soothravakyam. The KFCC is the co-ordinating body of the monitoring committee set up against workplace harassment of women in the Malayalam film industry. The ICC of the movie will submit its report before the committee for follow-up action. Allegation raised Vincy had alleged that Shine had misbehaved with her on the set of Soothravakyam and was found spitting a white powder while rehearsing a scene. Saji Nanthiattu, general secretary of the KFCC, said on Friday that the ICC was expected to submit the report within 10 days of launching the probe into the complaints. The chamber has made it already clear that it will not be lenient in the fight against drug menace on film sets and those responsible for such violations will feel the heat, he said. He criticised the meeting between Mr. Chacko and the leadership of the Film Employees Federation of Kerala in Kochi on Tuesday. After the meeting, the federation representatives had announced that the actor would be given one more chance for a course correction. 'I feel it was inappropriate for the federation to have made such a statement, especially when the ICC's probe was progressing,' he said. As job providers, it remains the mandate of the producers to take such a call after analysing the complaints related to professional misconduct. The presence of the producer of Soothravakyam at the meeting was also unwarranted, he said.

Unnikrishnan, General Secretary of the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), confirmed that Chacko had used drugs at his workplace and revealed that the film body has given a final warning to the actor to correct his mistakes. 'We have now informed his family members to seek professional assistance for him to overcome the problem of drug use. We will not co-operate with him if he violates the assurance not to create any more problems,' he said He further added, 'People who get addicted to such behaviours or practices should be given an opportunity to correct themselves, as that is the humane thing to do. But this humane approach should not be seen as a weakness.' Earlier, according to a report in Mathrubhumi, Shine apologised to Vincy during the internal committee meeting and assured everyone present that he would behave professionally in the future. He also told the committee that he had not acted intentionally. At an event connected to a 'No to Drugs' campaign, Vincy stated that she would no longer act with people who use drugs on film sets. Her statement caused a stir online. To clarify her position, she shared a video on Instagram explaining that she and a female colleague had faced inappropriate behaviour from a co-actor who was under the influence on set. Without naming her co-star at first, Vincy said that when she had an issue with her costume on set, the actor said, 'I'll fix it for you,' in front of everyone, creating an uncomfortable situation. 'He was also spitting a white powder from his mouth when the rehearsal for a scene was on. It was evident that he was using drugs on the set,' she added in the video. Later, Vincy filed a formal complaint with the Film Chamber and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists, naming Shine Tom Chacko as the co-star who misbehaved with her during the shoot of the yet-to-be-released film Soothravakyam.

Shine Tom Chacko given one last chance to correct his behaviour: Film Employees Federation of Kerala
The Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) on Tuesday said actor Shine Tom Chacko, accused by actress Vincy Aloshious of misbehaving with her under the influence of drugs, has been given one last chance to correct his behaviour failing which it would be difficult to continue working with him. FEFKA general secretary B Unnikrishnan, in a press meet held here, said that one last opportunity was given to the actor on his request as he is young and a good actor and such individuals 'should not be seen as criminals'. 'People who get addicted to such behaviours or practices should be given an opportunity to correct themselves as that is the humane thing to do. But this humane approach should not be seen as a weakness,' he emphasised. B Unnikrishnan said FEFKA has a strict stand on such matters and it has told Shine Tom Chacko that it can work with him only if he resolves the issue. 'He has assured us that he would resolve it,' Unnikrishnan said. He further said that following Vincy Aloshious' complaint, FEFKA also spoke to representatives of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and told them clearly that 'it would be difficult to move forward with film production in the prevailing circumstances'. Unnikrishnan claimed that the film production in the Malayalam cinema sector has gone down by 45 per cent in the last six months as reputed corporates or producers are unwilling to invest money in making movies due to the overall environment prevailing in the industry. 'The picture that is coming out before the public is that the Malayalam film industry is in the grips of drug cartels. In such circumstances, it would not be surprising if the industry becomes completely lifeless in the next 2-3 months. That is the manner in which production is going down… The public image about the environment in the industry is not at all encouraging,' he added. Shine Tom Chacko was recently arrested and then released on bail in a drugs case after he allegedly fled from a hotel in Kochi when a District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) team carried out a raid there. The actor has been booked under section 238 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and sections 27 (drug consumption) and 29 (abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, in connection with that incident. Just prior to that, Vincy Aloshious had made the allegations against Chacko. She has filed a complaint with the Film Chamber, accusing Chacko of 'inappropriate behaviour' while under the influence of drugs on a movie set and also informed the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) about his misconduct on the sets of the unreleased film Soothravakyam, though no police complaint has been filed. The Kerala government, meanwhile, has said that it views the allegations against the actor seriously and its police and Excise department were effectively intervening in the matter. The Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court had recently acquitted Chacko in a 2015 drug case, citing procedural lapses by the police during the seizure and arrest.
