'Talking' Siamese Cat With ‘Off-the-Charts Mimicry' Hilariously Repeats Bath Instructions
'Talking' Siamese Cat With 'Off-the-Charts Mimicry' Hilariously Repeats Bath Instructions originally appeared on Parade Pets.
In the oversaturated world of social media pet stars, few have what it takes to leave me cry-laughing, waking in the night to scan for new posts, and becoming my main topic of discussion with everyone I meet. As a sad Goth girl with an emo heart and the humor of a teen boy, my standards for what's funny or interesting are impossibly high.
One cat (and one cat only) has passed all my extensive tests: Merv, a sassy Siamese gal who doesn't just vocalize the way other felines do—that's too basic. The only way to explain this kitty's unique and kind of terrifying talent is to watch as Dad teaches Merv "how to wash her buns..."
Merv, my little demon angel, is quite literally (but not really) a human (or alien?) trapped in a Siamese cat body, and she's quite capable of speaking actual words you can understand.
I have no other words that can possibly explain why or how Merv is the way she is, but I'm completely obsessed (my husband is worried about me)! She's not a one-trick pony, either.
With more than 86 million likes on TikTok and 2.5 million followers who are all Merv stans like me, her talking abilities aren't only clear, but proven time and time (and time) you think I'm going to leave you with only one Merv clip, think again. I bless thee with the love of Merv's life, the shirtless gardener, Charles. And yes, she knows his name and any reference to her human soul mate!
If you're not obsessed with this funny cat yet, it's time to rethink your life choices.
About Merv's Mysterious Mimicry
A lot of Siamese cats are big "talkers," and some felines seemingly meow with an accent, but do you see the difference with Merv? Her mimicry is off the charts, spot-on in a way that makes you wonder how it's possible.
Research suggests cats learn to communicate by observing us. They pick up behavioral mimicry, such as routines and habits, emotional resonance like offering comfort or responding to our moods, and adaptive learning by copying something we do, like opening or closing a door.
None of that explains Merv's ability to speak and understand the English language, but I don't care! When my sad Goth girl comes out full-send, she's a healer. Whether she's lusting over Charles or learning how to wash her buns, I'm here for all of it.
So @mervthecat—please post more for those of us who cannot survive a day without her unhinged conversations!
