35-year-old run over by Scorpio driver trying to flee crowd amid roadside altercation in Jaipur
A 35-year-old man was run over by a group of youths in a Scorpio during their attempt to break through a crowd that had gathered following a roadside altercation in Jaipur.
The incident took place on Saturday evening. According to Murlipura Station House Officer Virendra Kureel, the deceased was identified as Chandrashekhar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, who lived on rent in Murlipura and worked as a labourer in Jaipur.
According to police, as the situation escalated, a crowd gathered at the spot. When the group in the Scorpio tried to flee, people stood in front of their vehicle to stop them. In the chaos, Chandrashekhar, who was in the crowd, fell on the road. Seeing themselves surrounded, the youths in the Scorpio accelerated the vehicle, allegedly ran him over, and fled the scene.
'We have detained two people and have called the owner of the car. Some are absconding and we will catch them soon,' said SHO Kureel.
Chandrashekhar was rushed to Kanwatia Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The incident triggered outrage among local residents, and police had to intervene to pacify the angry crowd.
The incident took place a day after another man was crushed under a speeding SUV in Jaipur.
On August 15, when a retired Army captain had taken out his bicycle at 5.30 am, he was hit by the speeding SUV, after which the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. The man was killed in the incident. The woman who was driving the SUV was later detained.
