Visa Debit and Revolut scam text warning as fraudsters 'evolving all the time'
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info The latest scam text currently targeting Irish people tries to trick them into believing their Visa Debit card has been frozen. Fraudsters are using Irish phone numbers to send out the scam texts, which read: "ALERT: Your Visa Debit card is currently restricted. Did you authorise €2865.55 to Revolut? To lift restrictions reply 1. Otherwise call us on +35316991643." Revolut has warned customers that "fraudsters are evolving all the time" and impersonation scams are on the rise. They've issued key advice for customers to spot the signs of scams. Revolut said: "So when your phone rings, how can you be sure it's really Revolut? We've got a simple rule that'll keep you one step ahead. "We'll only ever call you through our secure app, unless we've already arranged to do so via phone through our in-app chat. If someone calls you out of the blue — claiming to be from Revolut — and it hasn't been confirmed or flagged through the app, it's a scam. "No exceptions. Hang up immediately and report it via our in-app chat. "We want to stop fraud in its tracks so we can protect what's yours, and this means staying one step ahead. Using the app for calls means you can always trust it's us. You'll be securely authenticated before we even start the conversation, giving fraudsters no room to manoeuvre — and you some more peace of mind." The bank also clarified what they will never ask you to do during a call: Send money to a 'safe account' or any other account Make a payment for any reason Ignore fraud or payment warnings Share your PIN or personal details If you hear any of these red flags, it's a scam — hang up and report it.
