It is easy to make and fits perfectly into the season's light and breezy mood. But it is not just about the trend. According to The New York Post, some people are turning to this drink not only for taste but for a few small health perks as well. Registered dietitian nutritionist and recipe developer for the Cheerful Choices blog Mackenzie Burgess explained that cloud coffee is basically an Americano with coconut water replacing regular water. This small switch adds a tropical flavour and a nutrient boost especially for those looking to stay hydrated in the warmer months. Coconut water naturally contains electrolytes like potassium and magnesium which help support hydration. Burgess pointed out that one cup of coconut water of the brand Vita Coco, for example, has about 470 mg of potassium and 19 mg of magnesium which covers around 5% of daily needs. 'Overall, if you're into the flavour, it's a fun way to sneak a few extra nutrients into your morning drink," Burgess told the outlet. She further explained, 'Coconut water adds electrolytes to help with hydration, along with antioxidants that support immune health and help the body fight oxidative stress. It's also a lighter, more hydrating alternative to sugary creamers." For those wanting a creamier texture, Burgess recommends a splash of unsweetened almond-coconut milk blend. She noted that it adds the right amount of smoothness without any added sugar and complements the tropical flavour well. That said, not everyone will be a fan of this combination. Some people might find the mix of strong espresso and sweet coconut water slightly odd. 'Also, some coconut waters contain higher amounts of added sugar, so it's worth checking the label if you're keeping an eye on your sugar intake," Burgees added.
