Tony Vitello recaps Tennessee's win over Cincinnati in Knoxville Regional winner's bracket

Tony Vitello recaps Tennessee's win over Cincinnati in Knoxville Regional winner's bracket No. 14 national seed Tennessee (45-16) advanced to the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional championship game after defeating No. 3 regional seed Cincinnati (33-25), 10-6, on Saturday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. The Vols will face the winner between No. 2 regional seed Wake Forest and Cincinnati on Sunday (6 p.m. EDT). First pitch between the Demon Deacons and Bearcats is slated for noon EDT on Sunday. The loser will be eliminated from the NCAA Tournament. Following the Vols' win over Cincinnati on Saturday, eighth-year Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello discussed advancing to a regional title game. 'It's nice to have donors, alumni, fans and administration that are very supportive of our team," Vitello said. "I recycled a message nonstop about this weekend: embrace the chaos, because it is that time of year. I don't know that this game was more chaotic than the one before us, but both were kind of what you'd expect, all hands on deck, as it relates to pitchers, and a lot of good swings out of all four teams. "Fortunate at the end of the day to be one of the teams that was able to win." PHOTOS Wake Forest-Miami elimination game in Knoxville Regional Follow Vols Wire on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).

Tony Vitello recaps Tennessee's win over Miami in Knoxville Regional

Tony Vitello recaps Tennessee's win over Miami in Knoxville Regional No. 14 national seed Tennessee (44-16) opened NCAA Tournament play on Friday. The Vols were victorious against No. 4 Knoxville Regional seed Miami University (35-22), 9-2, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. 5,969 were in attendance. Tennessee will next play Saturday in a winner's bracket game against No. 3 regional seed Cincinnati (33-24). The Bearcats defeated Wake Forest, 11-6, in Friday's other regional contest in Knoxville. More: PHOTOS: Tony Vitello through the years Following Friday's win over Miami, eighth-year Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello recapped the Vols' opening contest in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. 'I don't have much of anything crazy to say, other than we watched some video on these guys, it's very apparent they play the game the right way," Vitello said. "They play hard. There's a reason why they were able to win the (MAC) tournament. They kind of made it look easy, so iit was a very competitive game, especially early on. I thought both of our lefties (Liam Doyle and Andrew Behnke), did an outstanding job. I know we mixed in (Austin) Breedlove in there, he did exactly what we asked him to do. Behnke was very similar to what he was last year in our regional to help kind of finish off the game for us. "Then both teams can say this. I thought our guys took a lot of good swings where we didn't necessarily get a great result, so that's an approach we'd like to keep, and I'm sure Miami of Ohio is saying the same thing, because they barreled up some balls they didn't get anything on either. Great environment, as well. First game was very competitive. It was loud, at least in the office, and then the crowd doubled in size and probably doubled in noise too." Tony Vitello discusses Tennessee hosting 2025 Knoxville Regional

Tony Vitello discusses Tennessee hosting 2025 Knoxville Regional Tennessee (43-16) earned a No. 14 national seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. The Vols will host a Knoxville Regional, along with No. 2 regional seed Wake Forest (36-20), No. 3 regional seed Cincinnati (32-24) and No. 4 regional seed Miami University (35-21). Tennessee will return to Lindsey Nelson Stadium for the first time since May 12. The Vols defeated Belmont, 9-4, in their regular-season home finale for senior day. On Tuesday, eighth-year Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello discussed the Vols returning home to host a NCAA Tournament regional. 'It's very difficult to do, to quote a really smart baseball person I talked to yesterday, but the biggest thing is, we were 12 days on the road, so I think the guys needed to get back,' Vitello said. 'We played a couple extra-inning games in there, for whatever reason, weather is a part of it, but we've played long games this year, so it was a taxing trip. It was a valuable one for our guys, but it was important, I think, for us to be able to sleep in our own beds, recover, use our weight room, so that's probably the biggest part of this weekend.' Tony Vitello recaps Tennessee's win against Texas in SEC Tournament

Tony Vitello recaps Tennessee's win against Texas in SEC Tournament No. 8 seed Tennessee (43-15) defeated No. 1 seed Texas (42-12), 7-5 in 12 innings, Thursday in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in Hoover, Alabama. The Vols have won six consecutive games in the SEC Tournament. Following Tennessee's win against the top-seeded Longhorns, eighth-year head coach Tony Vitello discussed the Vols' victory. "For me, I don't want to mess it up," Vitello said. "It was too good of a game to say too much. It was an ESPN Classic. I'll recycle an answer I talked about with the guys up there. One of my favorite periods of MLB playoff baseball was when Kenny Rogers, at a much older age than Brandon Arvidson, went on a tear, and him being out there left-handed, just kind of reminded me of that, and enjoyed it. It would have been unfair for it to work out against his favor, especially if he was on the mound, but it's not fair, it's chaotic, and it's postseason baseball. "The fact we beat them, were able to beat them, I think just playing this game will help both teams, but I guess the point I was going to make is, I don't want to speak for them, but I think the reason they won the league or the number one reason is they're bullpen is so good. For the reason that we were able to get it done against their bullpen, I think our guys should take great confidence in that."
