Ex-Bruins First-Rounder Signs With New Team

Former Boston Bruins defenseman Jakub Zboril has found his new home. HC Vitkovice of the Czech Extraliga has announced that they have signed Zboril to a one-year contract for the 2025-26 season. Zboril became a free agent earlier this summer after he mutually terminated his contract with HC Dynamo Pardubice. Now, instead of attempting an NHL comeback, Zboril will remain overseas, but now with HC Vitkovice. Zboril appeared 30 games this past season with HC Dynamo Pardubice, where he recorded two goals, 12 assists, 14 points, and a plus-4 rating. He also posted five assists in 16 playoff games with the club. Unfortunately, Zboril never blossomed into the true top-four defenseman the Bruins hoped he would and struggled to even secure a full-time spot on their NHL roster. In 76 games over four NHL seasons with the Bruins, Zboril recorded one goal, 15 assists, 16 points, 28 penalty minutes, 121 hits, and an even plus/minus rating. His time with the Bruins organization ended during the 2023-24 season when he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the deal that sent Andrew Peeke to Boston. 2 Bruins Named Potential Targets For Oilers In a recent article for The Athletic, Allan Mitchell discussed five potential targets for the Edmonton Oilers. Interestingly, two Boston Bruins made Mitchell's list.

Cleveland Monsters Defenseman Samuel Knazko Signs In Czechia

Cleveland Monsters defenseman Samuel Knazko has signed a two-year deal in Czechia with HC Vitkovice, it was announced earlier this week. Knazko, a 2020 third-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets, spent this past season playing for the Monsters, collecting four goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 55 regular season games. With Cleveland having made the playoffs, Knazko put up two assists in three games. Since turning pro with the Blue Jackets organization in 2022, Knazko has gotten into two NHL games but did not register a point. Over that span, he has also played in 149 career AHL regular season games, registering seven goals and 42 assists for 49 points. Prior to joining Columbus, Knazko played junior hockey in Finland, Slovakia and part of one season with the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds. With Knazko heading off to Europe, it is tough to see him making the journey back to North America unless he stands a real chance at seeing NHL minutes. A tough defender to go up agianst, Knazko has the ability to make a difference at both ends of the ice and should be a good player in Czechia's top pro league.
