Ex-Michigan Star Vladislav Goldin Gets NBA Prediction From ESPN Draft Analyst
The Michigan Wolverines won the Big Ten Tournament Championship this past season in Indianapolis before heading to the NCAA Tournament, where they put a first-half scare into the top overall seeded Auburn Tigers before falling in the Sweet 16. The Wolverines and their coach Dusty May are expected to move on without many of their top players from last year's team including Florida Atlantic transfer and Russian center Vladislav Goldin, who has been working out after hearing word of his invite to the 2025 NBA Draft Combine. Advertisement Goldin is one of two former Wolverines and one possible future Wolverine, along with Danny Wolf and Yaxel Lendeborg, formerly of the UAB Blazers, to receive a combine invite. "The 7'1 Russian center has a tremendous frame, size, and length, more athleticism than you might expect, and even flashes some touch from the perimeter. "He will very likely be on an NBA roster next year in some capacity." Goldin helped lead the Florida Atlantic Owls to the Final Four in 2023 alongside May at his previous coaching stop. Advertisement The Nalchick, Russia native Goldin averaged a career-best 16.6 points with the Wolverines last season while also posting a career high in rebounds with seven per game. He has a strong frame and solid athleticism and is a deft finisher around the basket, although questions surrounded his ability to guard perimeter players with the Wolverines at times. DENVER — Survive and advance. Texas A&M men's basketball took care of business against Yale on Thursday and now prepares to play five-seed Michigan on Saturday in the Round of 32. The teams come into the matchup fresh off different kinds of victories. The Aggies controlled the pace versus the Bulldogs for much of the night as they pulled out the 80-71 win. The Wolverines, on the other hand, were given all they could handle against a scrappy UC San Diego squad who tied the game in the final seconds before Michigan sunk a basket for the 68-65 win. Advertisement Four-seed Texas A&M is 3-1 against the Big Ten this season after defeating Ohio State, Rutgers and Purdue. The only loss came to Oregon. Michigan went 0-2 against the SEC this season, losing to Arkansas and Ole Miss. Between A&M and Michigan's seven common opponents, the Aggies are 7-1, and the Wolverines are 5-4 Here are three things to know about the Aggies' second-round opponent: Vladislav Goldin leads the way for Wolverines A&M had to deal with a sharpshooter in round one when they faced off against Yale's John Poulakidas and now enter round two with another prolific scorer to contend with in Michigan's Vladislav Goldin. Advertisement The 7-foot-1-inch center from Russia is unlike many of the leading scorers the Aggies have faced this season and could pose a matchup problem for an A&M squad whose tallest player, Pharrel Payne, is 3 inches shorter than the Michigan playmaker. Goldin is averaging 16.6 points per game and 6.8 rebounds, which are 10th and 12th in the Big Ten, respectively. Michigan struggles with assist/turnover ratio As good as the Big Ten champion Wolverines have been at scoring (78.0 ppg) and limiting opponents in the same category (71.1 ppg), Michigan has struggled to protect the basketball. The Wolverines are 17th in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.14. Michigan is averaging 16.1 assists per game but also turns the ball over an alarming 14.1 times per game, last in the Big Ten. Advertisement Guard Tre Donaldson is leading the way, dishing off 4.2 assists a game, while center Danny Wolf leads the team in turnovers with 3.2 per game. Michigan center Vladislav Goldin has a sterling .621 shooting percentage this season. Aggies looking for revenge It's not an extensive history between A&M and Michigan, as the two programs have met just twice. However, it's been a painful one for the Aggies, who are 0-2 against the Wolverines, with the most recent matchup coming back in 2018 in the NCAA Tournament. The two programs met in the Sweet 16 at the then-Staples Center in Los Angeles, where the Wolverines beat the Aggies soundly, ending their season 99-72. Michigan was led by guard Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman, who finished with 24 points, while forward Moritz Wagner added 21. A&M was led by Tyler Davis, who scored 24 points, but the Aggies struggled to find consistent scoring, having just three scorers reach the double digits. ESPN predicts Auburn's Sweet 16 matchup with Michigan ESPN analytics shares its final prediction ahead of Friday's March Madness game in Atlanta. Auburn basketball fans were able to take a huge sigh of relief when the Tigers defeated Creighton 82-70 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. That win meant the Tigers would make it out of the first weekend. That is an accomplishment they have not pulled off since the Final Four run in 2019. Now they turn their attention to the Sweet 16 in Atlanta, and the Michigan Wolverines. The Wolverines were the Big Ten Tournament champions and played well in the first two rounds. They defeated UC San Diego 68-65 and Texas A&M 91-79. They are led by their two seven-foot big men Vladislav Goldin and Danny Wolf. Goldin has averaged 18.5 points per game and 10 rebounds in the first two games. Auburn is familiar with Wolf. He played on the Yale team that defeated the Tigers last year in the first round. In that game he had points. The good news is that the ESPN Matchup Predictor gives the Tigers a 79.6% chance at advancing to the Elite Eight. Auburn will need to play well defensively against the Michigan front court without fouling. The Tigers will also need more offense from Johni Broome. He was four of 13 in the second round for just eight points. Dylan Cardwell will need to bring the same defensive attitude he did against Ryan Kalkbrenner of Creighton. Auburn should have an advantage at the guard positions against Michigan. Denver Jones and Tahaad Pettiford have both run the offense efficiently. Miles Kelly did not have the same success against Creighton as Alabama State, but can put up big numbers from the three-point line in any game. The Tigers will see a familiar face in Tre Donaldson. He transferred from Auburn to Michigan after last season. This season he is averaging 11.5 points per game for the Wolverines. The Michigan versus Auburn Sweet 16 matchup can be seen on CBS with an approximate tip-off time of 8:39 p.m. CT. The game will follow Ole Miss versus Michigan State.

The Michigan men's basketball team continues its NCAA Tournament appearance on Friday when it takes on Auburn in a Sweet 16 matchup in the South region. The No. 5 seed Wolverines (27-9) face the No. 1 seed Auburn Tigers (30-5) in Atlanta, Georgia. The winner will take on either No. 2 seed Michigan State (29-6) face the No. 6 seed Ole Miss (24-11) Sunday in an Elite 8 game. What time does Michigan play? Tipoff for Friday's Sweet 16 game is at 9:39 p.m. ET from State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. You can watch Friday's game at 9:39 p.m. ET on CBS Detroit. Michigan has claimed one national championship when it downed Seton Hall 80-79 in overtime in the 1989 title game. The Wolverines also posted runner-up finishes in 1992, 1993, 2013 and 2018, but had to vacate their 1992 and 1993 Final Four runs because of an NCAA violations scandal involving booster Ed Martin. The Wolverines have made 31 NCAA Tournament appearances and eight Final Four appearances (1964, 1965, 1976, 1989, 1992, 1993, 2013 and 2018). Michigan's first tournament bid came back in 1948. Michigan has posted a 68-30 record (including wins later vacated by the NCAA) in the NCAA Tournament. The Wolverines have reached at least the Sweet 16 round in each of their last five NCAA tournament appearances. FanDuel Sportsbook projects Auburn as an 8.5-point favorite. The over/under is set at 154.5. This marks the third meeting between the two schools. The all-time series is tied at 1-1. Michigan senior center and transfer Vladislav Goldin leads the Wolverines with 16.8 points per game, while fellow big man Danny Wolf averages nearly 10 rebounds per game.
