BJP councilor files complaint against Vedan for defaming PM
Kochi: Palakkad municipal councillor Mini Krishnakumar filed a complaint with and Union home ministry against rapper Hirandas Murali, popularly known as Vedan, for allegedly defaming Prime Minister in his song "Voice of Voiceless", released four years ago. "I responded immediately upon seeing it and that too through the appropriate channels," she said. She alleged that the song contained defamatory content against PM Modi and promoted caste-based hatred aimed at dividing Hindu community. She wanted NIA to initiate an inquiry under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Information Technology Act and other applicable laws. The complaint called for an investigation into Vedan's background and the intentions behind his actions. "He is an influencer and an artist who influences a community through his art. He performed this in front of a large audience and that is the important point. He talks about slavery. Where does slavery exist in India now? Vedan is sowing seeds of doubt by bringing up old issues in the modern era. It is NIA's responsibility to investigate why caste concepts are being instilled in people in new forms. Existing cases against Vedan should also be investigated, along with his background," she said. "This wouldn't be allowed in any other country. I don't know why it took so long to file a complaint after this was said in Kerala. As soon as I noticed it, I filed a complaint," she added.
