Iowa basketball transfer portal target signs with Big 12 foe
The Iowa Hawkeyes were one of two finalists for Utah Valley transfer guard Tanner Toolson. A 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard, Toolson was down to Iowa or TCU. On Sunday night, reports broke that Toolson had signed with TCU. CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz broke the Sunday night news. Toolson played in and started all 34 games with Utah Valley where averaged 13.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 45.3% from the field, 34.9% from 3-point range and 79.2% from the free-throw line. Toolson scored in double figures 25 times last season, including a season-high 28 points against Grand Canyon in the WAC Tournament championship game. The Vancouver, Wash., native helped lead Utah Valley to the WAC regular-season championship and an appearance in the NIT. Toolson was honored as a second-team All-WAC selection last season. Toolson began his career at BYU before transferring to Utah Valley and starting 65 games over the past two seasons. Reigning Horizon League Player of the Year and former Robert Morris forward Alvaro Folgueiras committed to the Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-9, 215 pound forward averaged 14.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game while shooting 54.8% from the field, 41.3% from 3-point range and 78.4% from the free-throw line. A native of Málaga, Spain, Folgueiras played in and started all 35 games last season as he led the Colonials to the Horizon League regular season and tournament championships. Iowa has also been in contact with former Southern Illinois guard Kennard Davis Jr. as the Hawkeyes work to finalize their first roster under new head coach Ben McCollum. Meet Molly Miller, the college basketball coach who led her team to its first NCAA tournament: a mother of 2, she worked in marketing before becoming a full-time coach
Basketball coach Molly Miller, who recently took the Grand Canyon Antelopes women's basketball team to their first NCAA tournament, has taken up a new challenge as head coach of the Arizona State University women's basketball team, reports USA Today. During her turn as head coach at Grand Canyon University, Miller guided the team to a championship-clinching victory against the UT Arlington Mavericks in the 2025 WAC Tournament. She then went viral for her post-game celebration, making snow angels in Gatorade on the locker room floor before her players gave her a celebratory lift on their shoulders. She succeeds Natasha Adair, who was fired after the team posted a disappointing 29-62 three-season record under her. She realised she had a knack for basketball at eight, when she served as a ball girl for the Missouri State Lady Bears, according to the GCU Athletics website. She attended Kickapoo High School, where she played basketball and took her team, the Lady Chiefs, to two state championships, per USA Today. According to her biography on the Drury University Athletics website, she graduated top of her class before joining the MBA programme at Drury, per her LinkedIn page. In her collegiate career, she played point guard and scored 1,570 points, making her the fourth-highest scorer in the history of Drury, per the New York Post. For steals and assists, she ranked second and third respectively. In her senior year she won the leading-athlete Paragon Award from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and earned an All-American title at NCAA Division II level. In 2012, she returned to Drury as an assistant coach of the Lady Panthers, even though the job came with a lower salary. After two seasons, she became head coach.
