Rs17b WASA project kicks off in DG Khan
A development project of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), valued at over Rs17 billion, was launched in Dera Ghazi Khan on Monday. Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner Ashfaq Chaudhry termed the establishment of WASA in Dera Ghazi Khan a "milestone initiative" aimed at providing clean drinking water and an effective drainage system. He said the project would also help protect the environment and raise public awareness about sanitation. Praising the provincial government, he described WASA as a "significant gift" from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to the people of the city. Sardar Jamal Khan Laghari also lauded CM Maryam Nawaz's development agenda, noting that projects were being launched across Punjab without political bias. He urged all political stakeholders to work together beyond party lines for the country's progress. WASA Punjab DG Mian Tayyab Fareed said the agency would modernize water supply, drainage, and sanitation networks, helping to address longstanding urban problems in Dera Ghazi Khan. MPA Hanif Khan Pitafi and WASA Managing Director Engineer Jawad Kaleem echoed these views, highlighting the Chief Minister's vision of ensuring access to basic public services. MNA Abdul Qadir Khan Khosa and WASA Punjab Director General Mian Tayyab Fareed were among the guests at the inauguration.

Pindi's sewerage system revamp on the cards
The Punjab government plans to address Rawalpindi's longstanding water shortage by completing the Chirah Dam (28 MGD), Chahan Dam (17 MGD), and Dadocha Dam (35 MGD) water supply projects. Additionally, 40pc of the city's sewerage system will be upgraded to 100pc, and rainwater harvesting systems will be expanded. These announcements were made by Punjab Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal during a meeting in Rawalpindi, attended by DG WASA Punjab Tayyab Fareed, MD WASA Rawalpindi Muhammad Saleem Ashraf, and other officials. The meeting reviewed the master plan for Rawalpindi's water and sewerage system, being developed under the Punjab Development Programme. Secretary Mengal stated that WASA will install new surface water treatment plants and upgrade the water distribution network in Rawalpindi. He added that rainwater harvesting systems and underground water storage tanks will be established to conserve rainwater, and sewage and stormwater from drains will be treated and reused for agriculture. Wastewater treatment plants will be installed at sewage drain outlets, including Nala Lai. Mengal emphasised smart resource utilisation and collaborative planning with relevant departments.
