Chinese defense stocks face wild swings amid arms export speculation
WATARU SUZUKI SHANGHAI -- China's defense stocks are fluctuating wildly amid reports of growing interest in the country's military equipment from Asian neighbors. Shanghai-listed shares of AVIC Shenyang Aircraft, the maker of J-35A fighter jets, fell 3.2% on Tuesday after jumping 9.3% on Monday. The surge had been in response to Pakistan's reported plans to purchase J-35As last week. The fifth-generation stealth fighter flew at China's biggest aviation expo in the southern city of Zhuhai in November.

Chinese stocks rise ahead of anticipated US trade talk outcome
WATARU SUZUKI and STELLA YIFAN XIE SHANGHAI/HONG KONG -- Chinese stocks opened higher on Monday after officials from Beijing and Washington concluded an initial round of talks over the weekend in Switzerland, with both sides messaging a positive tone. The CSI 300, an index of blue-chip stocks listed on mainland exchanges, opened 0.5% higher. If gain holds, the index wil be on track to finish at its highest level since U.S. President Donald Trump announced "Liberation Day" tariffs on April 2. Hong Kong's benchmark Hang Seng Index opened 1.4% higher.
