PHCIP implementation rate termed moderately unsatisfactory
ISLAMABAD: The World Bank (WB) has rated the Punjab Human Capital Investment Project (PHCIP) implementation progress, worth around revised $146.31 million, as moderately unsatisfactory. The project was approved in March 2020 with the development objective of to increase the utilisation of quality health services, and economic and social inclusion programs among poor and vulnerable households in select districts in Punjab. The closing date of the project was 30 June 2025, which is revised to 30 June 2026. The original cost of the project was $200 million, which is revised to $146.31 million. Official documents revealed that $122.19 million of the revised $146.31 million were disbursed while $32.74 million remain un-disbursed so far. Govt approaches WB for $200m PHCIP restructuring The project remains on-track to achieve its development objectives, although there have been some delays in the pace of implementation. A total of 1,084,186 pregnant and lactating women have been registered under the Aaghosh program across the project districts. Under the economic inclusion component, economic inclusion assets have been transferred to 64,592 families. The sub-component of education is providing Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) intervention (books, furniture, learning kits) to 9,397 schools, exceeding its revised target of 8900 schools. Olympic champ Khelif has to undergo gender test to continue fighting
CHENNAI: If the Paris Olympic Games were to be held this summer, then Imane Khelif might not have competed. The World Boxing (WB) has now come out with a contentious decision on "mandatory sex testing". All boxers, including Khelif, will have to undergo the test. The WB is right now the International Olympic Committee-recognised body and crossed the 100-national federation mark recently. This is not the first time she would be ineligible, the boxer was banned by the now-defunct International Boxing Association during the 2023 World Championships in New Delhi. The WB said in a late night statement that it would "introduce mandatory sex testing, to determine the eligibility of male and female athletes that want to take part in its competitions." Gender issues overshadowed the Paris Olympic Games, at least towards the last few days. The Paris Boxing Unit was in charge of conducting the event in the absence of a IOC-recognised body. As is usually the case, boxing without controversy seems like a pipedream. The crisis this time was not so much about refereeing but a decision that did not go down too well with quite a few national boxing federations and it was related to gender. Two boxers – Khelif of Algeria and Taiwan's Lin Yu-ting — were the centre of attention then. Italy's Angela Carini withdrew merely 46 seconds into the first bout against Khelif, because of the pain she felt from those opening punches. The IOC had said in a statement then that the gender and age of the athletes are based on their passport and she was a born female. Despite the noise, Khelif had gone on to capture the gold medal then. The WB has also written to the Algerian Boxing Federation of their decision and informed them that Khelif will not be eligible to fight any of the WB events until she undergoes sex testing. "Imane Khelif may not participate in the female category at the Eindhoven Box Cup, 5-10 June 2025 and any World Boxing event until Khelif undergoes genetic sex test..."

Hell Yeah, ‘Sinners' Comes Home to Streaming Next Week
You've seen it in theaters, and probably in IMAX. Pretty soon, you'll be able to watch Sinners in the comfort of your own home, as it comes to VOD platforms beginning Tuesday, June 3. Ryan Coogler's period piece vampire thriller has been the talk of the town since its mid-April release, and you'll be able to watch it on Prime Video or Apple TV. Price-wise, Prime Video and Fandango list the film at $25 to buy, but there's no prices to rent it at time of writing. For the physical media crowd, Sinners hits all the standard formats the following month on Tuesday, July 8. Special features include standard deleted scenes and behind-the-scenes featurettes on the movie's music, creature FX, and more. An HBO Max release date wasn't set. Earlier this week, Sinners finally came to the people of Clarksdale, Mississippi—where the film takes place—following a passionate online movement to get it screened in the theaterless town. It's playing in town six times over a three-day period, and per Reuters, WB provided the city's civic auditorium with a big screen, projector, and sound system. Coogler attended the screening with production staff, including composer Ludwig Göransson and actor Miles Caton, who plays Sammie. Clarksidale residents and those in the area flocked to see it, and 'hundreds' came to attend the first screening of day one. Attendees praised the film for its portrayal of their town and the Jim Crow era, and mayor Chuck Espy told Reuters the film's attention could help draw attention to the town. At time of writing, Sinners is still playing in theaters in standard, non-IMAX formats. WB's not in a rush to pull it from theaters, but you'll be glad to have it at home once they do.

Aurangzeb praises World Bank's valuable contributions to Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, on Friday, met with the World Bank Pakistan team, including Najy Benhassine, outgoing country director, and Bolormaa Amgaabazar, incoming Country Director for Pakistan. During the meeting, the finance minister warmly welcomed Bolormaa Amgaabazar to Pakistan and extended his best wishes for her upcoming assignment. He expressed confidence that the collaborative efforts between Pakistan and the World Bank would continue to flourish under her leadership. Ahsan vows to deepen cooperation with World Bank Aurangzeb also took the opportunity to commend Najy Benhassine for his valuable contributions and unwavering support to the Government of Pakistan throughout his tenure. He acknowledged Benhassine's role in strengthening the development partnership and wished him success in his future endeavours. Highlighting the enduring relationship between Pakistan and the WB, the minister expressed gratitude for the bank's generous financial and technical assistance across key sectors of the economy. He emphasised the importance of the recently signed 10-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF) as a pivotal element in Pakistan's economic roadmap, noting its potential to transform critical sectors through strategic and well-coordinated implementation. Aurangzeb underscored the significance of effectively executing the CPF's Country Financing Framework (CFF), describing it as essential to unlocking the full benefits of the WB's support. He particularly praised the institutional, technical, and financial backing consistently provided by the bank. The minister also highlighted the recent successful completion of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) review and the subsequent $1 billion disbursement under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), along with additional resources made available through the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). He noted that development finance must be guided by merit and objective assessment, rising above political considerations to ensure sustainable progress.
