East Kilbride boxer David Jamieson to rebuild after bruising Hydro defeat

The Westwood fighter suffered a third-round KO against Aloys Jnr David Jamieson will rebuild after Aloys Junior stunned a packed Hydro crowd with a devastating third-round KO against the East Kilbride boxer on Saturday. The pair went head-to-head for the WBA Continental cruiserweight title at the Glasgow venue, on the undercard of the Josh Taylor v Ekow Essuman bout. ‌ Jamieson was flattened in the third round, and The Real Deal was conscious, but struggling to move. ‌ Medics attended, but Jamieson was sat up after what was a crushing blow, and was later given the all-clear in hospital. He said: 'I'll take a bit of time, me and my wife will get away for a bit of sun, relax, and then come back and I'll look at things, see where we go. 'That's the game. We're all big boys – somebody's got to win, somebody has to lose, so I've been on both sides of the coin. You just need to dust yourself off and get on with it. ‌ 'It's now just a case of seeing what's next. It's a tough one at this stage. 'It's probably just a case of going away to reset, then come back. We would need to be rebuilding on the small hall shows again, and build yourself back up into title contention .' Jamieson says Aloys Jnr was the strongest fighter he has come up against, but the Hydro experience was still a good one, and has been grateful for an outpouring of support since. ‌ The experienced boxer said: 'He's an exceptional fighter. We knew he was a good lad, but serious power. Mikael Lawal was a big puncher, but Aloys was definitely the biggest. 'I've been doing this a long time and I could go into it, but there were a couple of shots behind the head. I protested to the referee, who wasn't really hearing it – but I never really recovered from those. 'Even since the fight, the outpouring of support has been mad, it has been great, everybody has been amazing. ‌ 'Walking out in front of a packed Hydro was a special occasion, the fans were very vocal and right behind me – if you could have bottled that it would be amazing.' Junior landed 24 punches and 25 jabs in a dominant display against Jamieson, and will now look beyond Commonwealth after retaining the belt. ‌ The fight began at a good pace, with Junior looking to line up the right hook that has made his name in boxing. He left his mark on Jamieson in the first round, landing a body shot and one to the head, dropping the home boxer to a knee. Jamieson beat the count comfortably and complained of a shot to the back of the head, but the referee wasn't interested. ‌ The Scot came back into the fight in the second round, forcing Junior onto the defensive, but a slamming body shot again dropped Jamieson to his knees. Jamieson was already struggling, before Junior hit him with a thunderous right hook to end the fight. ‌ Jamieson has been thoroughly backed by Kynoch Boxing Scotland, who said: 'David Jamieson ran into a serious talent in the form of Alloys Youmbi at the OVO Hydro. 'David had a nightmare start – being caught with two shots to the back of the head, and taking an eight-count. 'He didn't get going again after this, but showed the heart of a warrior, as always. ‌ 'Aloys put in an excellent performance – we wish him and his team all the best, going forward. He looks destined to go on to world level. 'David went to the hospital after the fight and was given the all-clear. 'David is a gentleman and held in high regard by everyone in boxing. 'He displayed once again that he will not back down from a challenge, and will always give it 100 per cent. We're proud to represent him.'

Josh Taylor aims to get his journey 'rebooted and kickstarted again' on Saturday

Land of the Brave' takes place at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow on Saturday night when a new, welterweight version of Josh Taylor will take on former British champion Ekow Essuman on his debut at the weight, having been undisputed champion at the weight below, shown live on DAZN Worldwide. Also on the bumper card is future heavyweight star Moses Itauma who takes on Mike Balugon who's only loss was against Murat Gassiev. In a pair of all-Scottish match-ups, Nathaniel Collins faces Lee McGregor while Aston Brown and Reece Porter will go at it in a battle of unbeaten prospects. An intriguing cruiserweight clash sees Aloys Junior and David Jamieson contest Junior's WBA Continental and the vacant Commonwealth Championships. While the sons of two Scottish boxing legends, Alex Arthur Jr and Drew Limond, make their pro debuts. Credit: Leigh Dawney/Queensberry. The final press conference took place at the Scottish Event Campus this afternoon. Taylor said: 'It is great to be back here and this has been my home since the Commonwealth Games. I've had most of my big fights here, Victor Postol, my first world title against Ivan Baranchyk, so I've had most of my big nights here, so I am looking forward to getting back. It has been a little while since I've been here, so I am looking to put on a big show on Saturday. 'Obviously training has been gruesome and hard, hard work, but it feels like I am at holiday camp this week. No dieting, cutting weight or drying out tonight, getting the last bit of water you can out of you. There is none of that this week, I am full of beans, full of energy with a spring in my step. I can't wait to get going on Saturday. 'I will get this journey rebooted and kickstarted again. Take care of business on Saturday, do it in a good fashion and look forward to moving on to big fights in the future. Credit: Leigh Dawney/Queensberry. 'At 140lbs what else was there left for me to do? I'd completed boxing in a sense and won every single belt in boxing you can win. What else was there for me in terms of challenges, setting new targets? There was nothing to do. So, what there was, was moving up with an assault on becoming a two-time, two-weight world champion. 'I am planning on taking this guy out on Saturday and that is what I'm going to do.' Ekow Essuman added: 'Thank you to everyone in Glasgow for accepting me, everyone has been extremely welcoming and it is a beautiful place. I am just happy to be here. 'That is the whole point of it, we're supposed to do that [in response to Taylor's taking out comment]. I don't take offence to it, it is what it is. He's in my way, I'm in his way. 'Of course he believes it, he should. That is good, if he wants to try and end it early it might be to his detriment. We are going to find out on Saturday. I came prepared for the best Josh Taylor there can be, so this is just confirming what I thought would come. 'It doesn't matter about being his backyard or if it was back in Nottingham or in London. I don't have a lot of shows I've boxed on in my home city, like big shows, so I am used to being the away fighter. 'It is just same job, different venue.' Credit: Leigh Dawney/Queensberry. Francis Warren said: 'It is an absolutely great show to reintroduce Queensberry back in Scotland. We have had some terrific nights here over the years and it is an absolute pleasure to be back. It is fantastic to be working with Josh and what he has done in this sport is second to none, literally, with him being the only guy in the UK to be undisputed in the four-belt era. 'Ekow has decided this is the challenge he wants to take and it is going to take a phenomenal effort from him to come up to Josh's hometown and disrupt what I am sure Josh wants to be a successful campaign at welterweight. But Ekow has got his own ambitions at world level and, if he does come up here and do the business on Josh, he is making a real statement. Josh also wants to make a big dent in the world scene. 'We've got some terrific youngsters on the undercard as well, local guys, and it is a pleasure to be back in Glasgow alongside a couple that we brought up from down south in Aloys and Moses. I am looking forward to a cracking night on Saturday.' Like this: Like Related

Caoimhin Agyarko ready for all-Irish clashes but Callum Walsh and Aaron McKenna fights stall

CAOIMHIN AGYARKO is ready to throw down in all-Irish derby fights with rising stars Callum Walsh and Aaron McKenna – but the Belfast boxer's plans have hit roadblocks this year. Agyarko, 28, revealed he was offered bouts with both 2 Caoimhin Agyarko celebrates after winning his WBA Continental super-welterweight bout against Troy Williamson 2 Agyarko says he was offered a bout against Cork sensation Callum Walsh but it fell through Cork's Walsh, 24, instead took on Scotland's Dean Sutherland in New York on St Patrick's weekend, knocking him out in one brutal round. Meanwhile, Monaghan's McKenna, 25, impressed against former world champ Liam Smith in a 12-round battle at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. On Walsh, Agyarko told The Rocky Road podcast: 'We asked for that fight for Madison Square Garden and they turned it down. 'Listen, I'm not going to say Callum turned it down, I don't like to say he turned it down. His manager just got back and said it was a fight for down the line. They were going on a different route and I respect that. read more on boxing 'I think Callum's a good fighter and it'll be a great fight in the future if we ever meet. He's young, up and coming, he's probably a contender now. 'I always respect all the fighters - no matter if they're Irish or not - but especially Irish fighters. I know how hard it is for us to try and make it in the world of boxing and I support all their journeys from afar. 'But if we ever meet, obviously it's business, not personal. 'Irish boxing is booming, you've got Pierce O'Leary, you've got Paddy Donovan, you've got Lewis Crocker, me, Callum Walsh, the McKenna brothers, you've got Gary Cully. Most read in Boxing "You've got Mick Conlan and Anto Cacace still flying the flag. Conor Wallace is on the verge of fighting for a world title as well. 'So Irish boxing is booming and it's great to see because we all kind of grew up together on the Irish scene together and to be all on our own journeys now, doing well, it's great to see how far we've all come.' Tommy Fury admits he was in a 'dark place' last year as he opens up on battles Agyarko's focus remains on becoming Ireland's first black world champion, and two wins in three weeks have bolstered his chances. First, he defeated Harley Collison at York Hall on March 30 before stepping in on short notice to outpoint Ryan Kelly in Nottingham – extending his record to 17-0. A clash with Britain's Ishmael Davis is next - on the Crocker-Donovan rematch in Belfast this autumn - likely leaving derbies until next year at least. On 'King' Callum, Agyarko added: 'I've got gloves and a gumshield and I will travel. Give me a date, I'm ready whenever. 'Well, his manager had said that his next few fights are going to be in LA or Vegas or whatever else and that fight only makes sense in Ireland. 'So I suspect that that's the route they're going to go down, to have a couple more fights in America. 'But listen, he's on his own journey and I'm on my own journey and if we meet, it'll be a great fight and a great fight for the Irish fight fans. 'I don't know him personally, but I wish him all the best on his journey and he keeps winning, I keep winning and we'll make a big fight down the line.' As for McKenna, Agyarko praised his rival's performance against Smith, saying: 'It was a great performance from Aaron, he stepped up to the plate against a world-class fighter in Liam Smith. A really classy, good performance. 'Beefy, I just think the inactivity killed him. He's been out of the ring, what, 18 months, two years? "And I think the inactivity against a young, fresh fighter like Aaron McKenna just showed on the night. But it was a real classy performance and he's a real talent.' Agyarko also addressed his own failed attempt to fight The Silencer earlier this year, adding: 'I accepted the fight for the Donovan Crocker first fight and he turned it down. 'They wanted me to come up to 160. I said, 'no problem'. Then they wanted me to come up to 164 and I said I'm not going up that far. 'They had said that they couldn't make middleweight and then they took the Liam Smith fight at middleweight. 'So, off the basis of that, I would say he would be moving up soon enough to 168. He might be struggling to make 160, but yeah, listen, I've unfinished business at 154. 'Until I win a world title at 154, I don't want to move back up to middleweight or until I achieve something like a European title or the weight gets hard for me to make, I don't want to go back up to 160. 'But career-wise, money-wise, if it made sense. I'm a fighting man. I'll fight anybody if it makes sense.'

Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn will finally get their hands on one-another on Saturday night to settle their bad blood for good. The two were initially set to meet at London's O2 Arena in October 2022, but the bout was controversially shelved when Benn tested positive for clomifene in the build-up - a substance which is banned in boxing due to it having the ability to elevate levels of testosterone. Benn denied any wrongdoing throughout, suggesting that he may have tested positive due to ingestion of chicken eggs. After a two year provisional ban, Benn was eventually cleared of any foul play last year, with the fight green-lighted once more in January. A face-off followed just a month later, in which, Eubank Jr slapped Benn in the face with an egg - an action which was slammed as "disgraceful" by his own father. Now, with a hint of bad blood added to the already fiercely competitive nature of boxing, the two are finally set for a highly-anticipated showdown which promises fireworks from the off. With a record of 34-3 at middleweight and super-middleweight, Eubank Jr heads into the fray with a size advantage over his traditionally welterweight opponent. However, the fight will take place at 160lbs, with a 10lb hydration clause written into the contract to prevent either man from gaining an advantage between the weigh-ins and fight night. Benn, meanwhile, has been untouchable in the world of boxing, boasting a perfect record of 23-0 with hopes of continuing his hunt for world championship glory. While the 28-year-old clinched the WBA Continental welterweight strap in July 2018, defending his belt eight times against high-level opposition, he is yet to have a shot at a world title. And a win over Eubank Jr, a two-weight world champion, will certainly put him in the picture. Eubank Jr and Benn headline the bill of what is being touted as 'Fatal Fury' on Saturday night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The event kicks off at 5pm, while the undercard is set to take place 15 minutes later. Fight fans hopeful of catching Eubank Jr's bout with Benn will have to wait until around 10pm for the main event, although the timing could vary dependent on how long the undercard takes to conclude. DAZN PPV is set to show the event in all of its glory for £19.95, and customers will receive seven-days of free access to the DAZN platform for choosing the broadcaster. This will allow users to browse documentaries, live fight watch-alongs, press conferences and a whole host of other sports-related content on the platform. Sky Sports Box Office is also showing the full card for £19.95. On top of Eubank Jr vs Benn, there is a whole host of other action taking place this weekend. Ashton Sylve takes on Nicolas Polcano at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia on Saturday evening, with the event kicking off at midnight and running into the early hours of Sunday morning (UK time). The event can be streamed via BLK Prime PPV. Meanwhile, Jonathan Montrel takes on Mack Allison IV at the Carteret Performing Arts Center on Sunday in an event that will also be streamed on DAZN. The event kicks off at midnight and the main event is expected to arrive in the early hours of Monday morning (UK time). Chris Eubank Jr: "The procedure will be parliamentary, that's the only thing I can say about this fight. Everything will go the way I want it to go. I will be like a matador in that ring, and Conor Benn will be the bull." Conor Benn: "It's always personal. Every opponent I fight is personal. People want to say it's strictly business, it ain't business. It's never business. If you're trying to put your hands on me and render me unconscious it's never business. It's always personal, every single one of my opponents. But this one has a little bit more history to it, shall we say?"

Nigel Benn's incredible mansion, huge net worth and furious TV argument with celebrity

Nigel Benn's incredible mansion, huge net worth and furious TV argument with celebrity Conor Benn is set to put an end to his long-standing rivalry with Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday, and his father, Nigel Benn, will be there to spur him on and advise him on his approach Nigel Benn has been with Conor Benn every step of the way in his boxing career (Image: Getty Images ) Nigel Benn's rivalry with Chris Eubank Sr will be relived by the pugilists' children on Saturday, as Conor Benn faces Chris Eubank Jr at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. No strangers to one another in the squared-circle, Benn lost his WBO middleweight title to Eubank Sr via a ninth-round TKO back in 1990, before holding 'Simply the Best' to a draw three years later. And now, Conor and Chris Jr are set to have their own day in the sun with one another, in what is being billed as one of the most highly-anticipated outs of a generation. ‌ With a flawless record of 23-0, Conor heads into the bout with an untouchable mentality, fuelled by his father's words of wisdom and Tony Sims' tutelage. Conor made his debut in 2016, before blazing through a number of boxing's most renowned up-and-comers to clinch the WBA Continental welterweight title just two years later. Article continues below After defending his belt eight times, it appears as though Conor's main focus is now on world championship glory, with a win this weekend certain to put him in the title frame. However, he will have to dispatch of a tough nut in 34-3 Eubank Jr in doing so - a man who has primarily spent his career at the heavier middleweight class and enters the fray as the far more experienced man. However, unlike Conor, Eubank Jr's father will not be present at the fight - publicly slamming the contest due to the weight difference between the two contestants, despite it being held at 160lbs and having a 10lb hydration clause in the efforts of fairness. Here, Wales Online breaks down Nigel Benn's relationship with his son, his net worth, and life away from boxing. A battle with sex addiction While Nigel endured 48 gruelling fights in the ring, some of his toughest battles came outside of the ropes - with an addiction to casual sex almost driving the former world champion to taking his own life. Speaking about his battles in the past, Nigel said: "It was an addiction, not to heroin or anything like that, but to women. ‌ "I didn't care whether they were tall, short, wide or very wide." Blaming his actions on "very low self-esteem" following the failure of his first marriage, he also noted that his behaviour was having wider impacts on chances at a second family. Nigel Benn and his wife, Caroline (Image: Allsport ) He added: "I just got to a low point when I said, 'Right, this is it'. It was eating me away, I just couldn't keep hurting my wife and my kids." After attempting to take his own life in 1999, Nigel turned to Christianity to turn his troubles around - living with his pastor for a year after his wife, Caroline, kicked him out of the family home. ‌ Fast forward to 2025, and Nigel and Caroline are still married, with Nigel reportedly acknowledging his past mistakes and taking steps to prove his commitment to his wife. An argument with a fellow celebrity Nigel made headlines in 2002, when he announced that he would be taking part in ITV's I'm A Me Out Of Here! However, his stint on the show wasn't without its controversy, almost coming to blows with Rhona Cameron. An argument broke out between the boxer and the Scottish comic after Nigel critiqued her "constant moaning" while she accused him of homophobia. Cameron then said: "Why don't you go and read your Bible? Actually why don't you f*** off and leave?" before tempers erupted further. ‌ Nigel Benn was involved in a war with words with Rhona Cameron (Image: Copyright (c) 2025 Shutterstock Editorial. No use without permission. ) Nigel replied: "You're lucky you're not a man or I'd knock you, sparko." Thankfully, no blows were exchanged between the two, and Nigel reflected on the incident in 2022. He said: "Over 20 years ago, I was 'in the jungle' with Rhona. "We are both strong personalities (which is what has made us who we are). I didn't actually threaten her – but did 'state' verbally that if she was a man I would deal with her…But at no point did I raise my hand to her. It was just a heated exchange of words – end of." ‌ Homes in the sun While Nigel was raised in Ilford, he has resided in a number of different countries throughout the course of his life. He moved to Majorca in 2002 - however, he was initially incredibly apprehensive of even visiting the Spanish tourist trap on holiday. As per the Majorca Bulletin, he previously said: "I was sitting on the plane, still fuming, my agent has messed up the bookings and we did not know where we were booked to be staying, so I'm sitting on the plane, angry and picked up the Daily Bulletin, and started leafing through the ads and spotted this apartment; got to the airport, headed for one of the accommodation offices and asked directions to this property and a hotel nearby. "Great, we ended up in a £50 a night place in Palmanova, not the £1500 a night I'm used to and I'm already missing my cable TV, all I got was BBC 24 and I'm like, get me out of here. We were supposed to have been in Puerto Pollensa. So, to cut a long story short (no future as a public speaker), I had lost interest in the apartment but my wife managed to talk me into looking round the place with her instead of relaxing on the beach. Content cannot be displayed without consent ‌ "We got there, I opened the door and I was well impressed, the view. I tried to keep cool, but the agent could see I was impressed and by the time we had finished, I had bought another larger one nearby - unbelievable - and something just hit me like man; this is where I want to be with my kids and my wife. I never realised all this existed just round the corner from England." However, in the early 2010s, Nigel was on the move once more - this time to sunny Sydney, Australia. In the years since of living Down Under, Nigel has worked with troubled teenagers at the Blacktown PCYC, and even had a massive mansion constructed for he and his family to reside in. A monumental net worth Given that he is one of the most renowned boxers of his generation, with an overall record of 42-5-1, it comes as very little to no surprise that Nigel has racked up an estimated fortune of around £15 million, as per Celebrity Net Worth. A two-time world champion with wins over Gerald McClellan, Mauro Galvano, as well as a loss and a draw with Eubank Sr, much of his net worth is thought to have come from his time in the squared-circle. Article continues below However, Nigel has also worked as a DJ, appeared on I'm A Celeb, and released an autobiography entitled Dark Destroyer - a nod to his ring name. Elsewhere, he has also worked as a patron of the Shannon Bradshaw Trust, a UK-based children's charity which helps youngsters with life-threatening conditions and their families.
