No seat list yet, aspirants worry about med dreams
Kolkata: It was a restless Wednesday for MBBS and DBS aspirants who had been looking forward to the first list of seat allocation following the first round of counselling. The suspension of the counselling procedure by West Bengal Medical Counselling Committee (WBMCC) has left their medical dreams in uncertainty. There has been no update from the health department on the next step or resumption of the counselling that would ensure these students attend classes on time. "I am still waiting for an update that would save me from this confusion and uncertainty. That is why I kept checking for updates throughout the day, only to be disappointed," said Dipayan Ganguly, who attended Bidhannagar Government High School. Given my rank, I was sure of bagging a seat in a govt medical college in Bengal and was looking forward to taking admission during the specific dates allocated. Now everything looks so uncertain," said Mimisa Mondal, another candidate. After seat allocation, which missed the Wednesday date, the aspiring students would have had to be physically present at their respective colleges between Aug 21 and 23. "The counselling itself was rescheduled multiple times. When we thought all hurdles were over and had started looking ahead to the seat allocation, this suspension notice came as a blow. We request the govt to come up with a solution at the earliest," said Md Sakib Raza, another aspirant. Some parents visited Swasthya Bhawan on Wednesday to find out from officials what was transpiring. But all returned without getting any answer. "Why was this suspension decision taken after the day of the choice-locking procedure? If at all it had to be put on hold, it could have been done earlier. Can this not be expected from a decision-making/nodal department like the WBMCC? Not providing a reason fuels the grapevine on social media, and that is an uncontrolled menace," said an anxious parent whose daughter had also locked her choice.
