2 Ohio police officers injured in shooting; Suspect in custody
Two police officers were shot in Ohio Wednesday evening, according to our media partners WBNS-10 TV. Both officers were transported to the Grant Medical Center, but information on the severity of their injuries was not immediately available. It is unclear what led up to the shooting. The Columbus Division of Police told WBNS-10 that they are on scene and a suspect in custody is in custody. Steel said two Columbus police officers were involved in a crash while responding to the scene. Both were injured, but are described in stable condition. Several law enforcement agencies were spotted on scene, and a police helicopter was circling the area, WBNS-10 reported. News Center 7 will continue to follow this story. Ohio teacher accused of inappropriate relationship with 15-year-old student, documents alleged
An English teacher in Ohio is facing charges after an alleged inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old student last week, according to our media partner WBNS-10 TV. Court documents show that Daboubi is accused of kissing, sitting on the student's lap, and letting him inappropriately touch her, according to WBNS-10 TV. The person walked up to the car and reportedly saw the teacher jump off the teenager's lap, WBNS-10 reported. The student reportedly admitted to police that he had an inappropriate relationship with Daboubi, and they allegedly kissed in the car, according to court records. Text messages processed by authorities reportedly show that the woman and teenager had an inappropriate relationship. WBNS-10 obtained a letter from school administrators that was sent out to the community about the incident. It refers to Daboubi as a 'now-former staff member.' 'The school took swift and appropriate action by placing the individual on administrative leave. As of now, the individual is no longer employed at Horizon Science Academy Columbus High School,' the school wrote in the letter. According to WBNS-10, the school said there is nothing to indicate Daboubi had a relationship with any other students. 'We recognize that situations like this can be upsetting. We encourage our school community to avoid speculation or the spread of rumors, as doing so can cause unnecessary worry and harm. Please be assured that we are doing everything within our authority to protect our students, support those affected and uphold the safety and integrity of our learning environment,' the school said. Authorities conduct random inspections on semitrucks in Ohio; Here's why
State officials are working to make sure drivers feel more comfortable around semitrucks on the roadway. The random checks typically happen at truck stations and rest stops, but inspectors can pull over truck drivers if they notice something looks off, WBNS-10 reported. Inspectors are making sure drivers are coherent and haven't gone past their limit. WBNS-10 reported that drivers are only allowed behind the wheel for a certain number of miles and amount of time. Inspectors are also looking at the tires on semitrucks for any leaks, patches, and low tire pressure. State officials said these efforts directly impact everyday drivers in Ohio, according to WBNS-10. 'We all drive along the highways and drive around semitrucks. These things can weigh up to 80,000 pounds and certainly cause a lot of damage if they get into an accident!' Public Utilities Commission of Ohio spokesperson Matt Schilling said. If the semi doesn't pass the inspection, the driver receives an out-of-service violation. Officials still ask drivers to be mindful while passing any truck. 'Trucks have blind spots. So you need to be mindful when you're passing a truck. Try not to drive along the side of a truck in their blind spot,' Schilling told WBNS-10. More than 1,500 violations and 300 out-of-service violations were issued during last year's road check. Mother, son killed in crash on Mother's day
An Ohio mother and her young son died in a crash on Mother's Day. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] 25-year-old Aisha Trawally of Columbus was a passenger in a vehicle traveling on I-70 in Claysville, Pennsylvania, about 45 minutes from the Ohio border, our news partners at WBNS-10 TV reported. A 4-year-old boy, Abdul-Salami Touray, was in the backseat of the vehicle, according to a release from the Washington County Coroner obtained by WBNS-10 TV. The vehicle crossed a median and collided with a semitruck, WBNS-10 TV reported. Trawally was pronounced dead at the scene, and Touray was flown to UPMC Washington Hospital and pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle was flown to a Pittsburgh-area hospital, WBNS-10 TV reported. The coroner's report stated that Trawally was not weaing a seatbelt and Touray was not in a child seat. Deputy shoots, kills dog after it bites partner in face during chase
A dog is dead after it attacked a sheriff's deputy in Ohio on Tuesday, according to our media partners WBNS-10 TV. The driver didn't stop, and a chase began, according to WBNS-10 TV. A spokesperson from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office said the driver bailed out of the car in northeast Columbus near Century Drive and Mock Road. The suspect allegedly left the driver's side door open after he got out and ran away, WBNS-10 reported. At that time, the pit bull got out of the car and bit a deputy in the face. The deputy's partner then shot and killed the dog, according to the spokesperson. WBNS-10 reported that the deputy will go to the hospital for treatment and is expected to be okay.
